Feelings are meant to be temporary states that give you information about your needs.
They aren't who you are.
You are not an angry person; you have anger that needs to be felt and processed, and a deeper unmet need that's calling to be addressed.
You are not anxious; you experience anxiety and it's alerting you to check in and listen to your body. There's a part that's calling out to you.
You are not what you feel, but when you identify so deeply with your feelings, it makes it really easy to get stuck in them & their limited perspective instead of learning what they're trying to tell you.
Feelings aren't meant to stick around forever; they're information.
Cues. Signals.
About past wounds that need to be processed,
or letting you know that you're straying from your values and deepest needs,
or they're helping you move through the loss of something that mattered to you.
To get better at navigating our feelings, we have to also get better at navigating the Self that lives beneath the feelings.
What part of you is being protected when you're feeling angry?
What part of you needs to be held when you're feeling sad?
What part of you finds joy and peace in when engaging your favorite activity with your favorite people?
When we get to know and trust the Self beneath the feelings, it helps us get curious when the feelings show up.
