Sitting with our big feels can be overwhelming when our emotional intelligence "muscles" or capacity to cultivate a sense of safety within our bodies when we connect with the big uncomfortable emotions are under developed.
It can feel like jumping in the ocean without swiming skills.
The good part is that we can train & strengthen these "muscles" & learn how to swim.
In order to do that without self harming we need to check in with ourselves and notice our current state and wether or not we are emotionally available for our wounded parts.
We need to check in with ourselves to see wether or not we can be the safe person we need and hold safe space for our feels to be felt.
And as we begin to sit with the parts of ourselves that feel the difficult emotions, we can remind our body and mind that it is safe to feel all that.
It might be terrifying at first. It might be challenging. That's why we don't have to feel it all at once all of a sudden. We can ease into it.
We can learn to start small with feeling our feels. We can even pause and rest before it gets unbearable. We can learn titration. We can learn baby steps. We can learn that less is often more. We can learn patience and compassion and let go of self judgement.
