IOM Romania, together with the Romanian Border Police and the General Inspectorate for Immigration, carried out an information activity at “Henri Coandă” International Airport (Otopeni) and “Avram Iancu” International Airport (Cluj-Napoca) for foreign nationals arriving in Romania.

During the activity, we distributed informational materials presenting key cultural and religious traditions in Romania, alongside practical guidance on safety and the rights of people living in the country. The leaflets provide an overview of important holidays, as well as cultural reference points.

The materials also include essential information for emergencies and situations of vulnerability, including contact details for relevant institutions, and recommendations to help prevent risks such as human trafficking and labour exploitation.

An important step towards safer and smoother integration is the access to clear, reliable information, which helps migrants settle in, navigate everyday life with confidence, and know where to turn for support.

IOM remains committed to collaborating with public institutions and relevant stakeholders to support migrants’ access to information, rights, services, and to strengthen pathways for integration across Romania.

Spring in Romania is marked by two traditions: Mărțișor (1 March) and International Women’s Day (8 March). Through flowers and community-led artistic performances, we shared a moment of recognition and belonging, supporting integration through everyday connections and cultural exchange.

Days like these create space to connect, be seen, and feel at home.

3 million people displaced.

Many are still hoping to return home. But home often means broken roads, missing services, and an uncertain future.

IOM is there every step of the way.

As part of IOM’s community‑based integration and psychosocial support activities, our beneficiaries joined a karting session. It offered a safe, low‑pressure space to meet others, practise language, and take a healthy break from stress.

This activity is part of the project: InterAct – Active Participation and Integrated Support for Migrants in Romania 2024–2026 (AM22A/01), co-funded by the European Union, National Programme 2021–2027 Asylum, Migration and Integration: www.fed.mai.gov.ro.

The global water crisis affects everyone, but not equally.

Women and girls often carry the greatest burden when safe water and sanitation are lacking, especially in crisis and displacement settings.

As part of IOM’s integration activities, members of the Ukrainian community joined a socio‑cultural visit in Argeș County: Vidraru Dam, Poenari Fortress, and Curtea de Argeș. Beyond the landmarks, it was simply a good day together, where everyone felt included and heard.

Together with public institutions and civil society, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) implemented an initiative to strengthen sustainable cooperation in support of victims of trafficking. The effort contributes directly to the National Anti‑Trafficking Strategy 2024–2028 and is funded by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland through the Modern Slavery Fund.

In this context, on 17–18 March 2026, IOM, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity and the National Agency against Trafficking in Persons (ANITP), organized a capacity‑building event for specialists from social assistance and child protection services across the country.

The event brought together representatives of relevant authorities, decision‑makers and experts in counter‑trafficking and victim assistance, facilitating constructive dialogue and the exchange of good practices. The working sessions offered participants the opportunity to develop and refine the skills needed when working with victims.

This initiative reaffirms the partners’ commitment to strengthening cooperation mechanisms and ensuring a coordinated, effective response in support of victims of trafficking.

Special thanks to our partners and participants: Ministry of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity, National Agency against Trafficking in Persons (ANITP), Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Romania, British Embassy Bucharest, General Directorate of Social Assistance of the Municipality of Bucharest (DGASMB), General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection, Sector 1 (DGASPC Sector 1), DGASPC Sector 2, DGASPC Brașov, Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DCCO), SafePol, ADPARE, and MICU Foundation.
