Pandiculation is an intuitive, involuntary practice that resets the nervous system through movement. Linked with somatic therapy, pandiculation is often described as a stretch. As a fascia-informed somatic educator, I want to offer a fascia-informed version. How pandiculation is different from a stretch. The importance of this is in the way neurotransmitters are released. The feel-good of a stretch is different from the feel-good sensation of pandiculation. Bringing this practice up to date with the latest in fascia research and biotensegrity helps us to recognize why a stretch and pandiculation are different. What's most fascinating is the sensory nature of fascia. How it's embedded with millions of neurons, making it the largest sensory organ in the body. What's emerging is that it's not only the nervous system that makes connective tissue super sensitive. The embryo begins life without a brain or nervous system. I will share more on this electrical blueprint for anyone interested in this phenomenon. In the meantime, I've written this fascia-informed version of pandiculation. With an emphasis on restoring homeostasis through motion.
