Spending time India doesn’t mean you’ll come back with some big revelations.
Yet being exposed to a new environment, learning new things, practicing intensively and the yoga of life can help you change a bit your outlook.
Something that stuck with me after my (short) time there is the idea of slowing down.
Slowing down your practice, the pursuit of achieving various goals or poses, not wanting to press the ⏩ fast forward button anymore or at least being aware of wanting to do that.
It can be difficult if you’re someone who has always wanted to prove themselves and others that they can be that person or do that thing.
We’re so used to doing things faster and faster. And this chase robs of the chance to really focus on the things that matter - the small moments: enjoying the sun rays on a walk, observing a building you’re never noticed before, watching a movie with friends, enjoying a coffee and a croissant 🥐, seeing your dog elated when you come back home, catching up with a friend, cooking something with your partner or friends, watching your favorite show, discovering a new song and the list can go on and on.
Being in a rush, chasing goal after goal or big moment after big moment doesn’t give you the chance to stop and really take in what you’re doing at that point.
Taking things slower is something I’m slowly learning (coincidence?).
So, after writing all these words to accompany this beautiful photos (I have postponed on posting), this is my conclusion and advice to both me and you: every time you get caught up in the turmoil of life, sit down for a bit and focus on what you’re doing then. You will surely find a moment you want to be present in. And then one moment becomes 2, and 3, and 4, and you start to notice that your life, just as it is, is something you can and should really appreciate. Not just the big moments, achievements or trips.
It sounds so simple, yet it takes us a lot of time to truly understand this.
And that’s something yoga teaches us all the time.
It starts on the mat, during your practice and extends to your life outside of the mat.
