Forming new neural connections (synapses) in the brain often requires significant repetition - around 400 times of practicing a behavior or thought. However, when this repetition happens in a state of play, curiosity, or enjoyment, the process becomes much more efficient, requiring only 10–20 repetitions to create the same synapses.
This is because play activates positive emotions and engages the brain's reward system, which enhances learning and memory. The state of play also emerges when we are anchored in our Ventral Vagus Nerve complex, the state we want activated often in order to thrive as humans.
