Cranio Sacral Therapy or CST was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics. CST has its origins in osteopathic medicine and in the work of doctor William G. Sutherland since the early 1900s. As Dr. John himself describes it: "Cranio Sacral Therapy is a gentle, minimally invasive method for enhancing the functioning of virtually every system, in the body, as well as facilitating the harmonious coordination of Body, Mind and Spirit." CST uses hands-on methods and techniques to evaluate, release tension and improve the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
Migraine Headaches
Chronic Neck and Back Pain
Motor-Coordination Impairments
Colic
Autism
Central Nervous System Disorders
Orthopedic Problems
Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
Scoliosis
Infantile Disorders
Learning Disabilities
Chronic Fatigue
Emotional Difficulties
Stress and Tension-Related Problems
Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-Surgical Dysfunction

Somato Emotional Release or SER is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma. "Soma" is Greek for Body. The Body can encapsulate emotions during powerful events; such as traumatic events of a physical, emotional and psychological nature. This goes for every single part of the body, whereas tissue, organs, bones, even cells. From clinical Observation by Dr. Upledger and craniosacral therapists, it occurs that the body possesses memory, emotional capacity and intelligence. Release of retained tissue emotion and pain usually is what SER deals with, in a complex, powerful, liberating process. Psychiatrists and psychotherapists who have witnessed or participated in the SER process often link it to BODY PSYCOTHERAPY. http://upledger.com/

About your therapist, very shortly, as there is much to say. And this time, I wanted to add the real stories and not just a CV style condensed cold summary!

I am a therapist, I have been working with craniosacral therapy since 2011, and over time I have had the chance to work with people of all ages, children, seniors, children with autism, and enjoy fantastic results and experiences. I am trained in therapy with the Upledger U.S.A. Institute and I have two Master degrees in Social Sciences, Management, Economics and Finance. I gratuated at 22 from the University of Toulouse and the University of Amsterdam. I initially started my career in Investment Banking, then in Management Consulting and I understood that this is not what I want to do, that there is no contribution and no value is added. That my love for learning and for academia is not at all found in these jobs. I then found a job at the Cultural Center of Amsterdam, a temporary job but with nice people and a nice rythm, that allowed me to rest and get my life back after the hell that was the previous job in consulting. I could enjoy simple things again and feel the seasons...the stress I had in my job as a consultant was so big I could not even tell what season I was in! Was just stressed and very unhappy most of the time. And my close friends did not understand at all...they had their easy student lives ...it is very painful when those closest to you do not understand your pain, the stress you experience and are the opposite of supportive!

While at CREA I started looking for something else and I kept experimenting, moving to the NGO sector, as I started to work at United Nations in New York, where I loved it!

Then as a volunteer in Brazil and later in Romania, where I worked with children with autism. It was quite hard to figure out that I have to leave my job and search something else, hard to figure out what, with huge pressure on me, very high {unrealistical} expectations and financial constraints and stress! It was not an easy choice, not at my young age, not as a Romanian coming from a poor country, depending on visas at a time when it was impossible to live in another country without a job. So changing a career path was a big move. Huge move! And no, not easy!

At one point I started learning about painful back problems, which I had since I was 16 - basically I did not have a day without pain, and it got worse as my entire arm would go numb and my upper back, neck and head hurt like hell.
And I started practicing yoga, first in Lausanne, then in Bucharest with a wonderful teacher, then I did training in therapy. And I started contemporary dance classes, contact impro, and much more. I traveled a lot and called Amsterdam 'home', and then - for a few years I was only on the road, from the Brazilian jungle to New Zealand and many European countries, I experimented and learned a lot. I have created, organized and supported courses, such as: Healing the Past, Femininity and Harmonizing yin yang Energies, Communication, Living the Present, Dancing, Love yourself. I also traveled with therapy, going to festivals held in unique locations, in the mountains, by the sea or in desert areas. Experience in therapy helps me better understand how the human body works, what are the connections between it, the energy system and mind - thinking - consciousness. And how can we truly heal ourselves and restore our self-conscious connections clearly and beneficially.
I have tried many other forms of therapy and always continue to practice and discover. And I don't take anything for granted, but "I question everything" and I choose what helps me. This is what I expect from you, to come with an open heart and to see better what you want and what works for you. And give yourself this time for real!
