YEAN is a Youth Led Private Agriculture enterprise that provides extension and advisory services to individual farmers, farmers’ organizations and contracts to design and implement innovative youth led Agriculture programs. YEAN strives to facilitate and optimize the engagement of Youth in Agriculture and Food System. YEAN work towards contributing to the SDG Goal 2: Ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture. YEAN core business in the next 5 years (YEAN Vision 2025) is to continue as a private youth led enterprise that capacitate producers to make informed decisions and adopt agricultural technology and innovations which increase, diversify, specialize, and intensify agricultural production. YEAN activities are channeled in six interventions:

● Strengthening the capacity of farmers in value chain specific extension and advisory services
● Promoting youth led Agriculture models
● Youth inclusion in Agriculture Extension Services and programs
● Youth led agriculture outreach for tailored and demand driven extension and advisory services
● Agribusiness Innovation and Incubation Program

To assess and evaluate the progress, is conducting a field visit in , where over 2,700 young farmers are participating in YEAN’s interventions of capacity building of young farmers and agribusinesses under YEFFA Eastern Consortium.

The visit also aims to engage with YEAN agronomists, review the progress in selecting youth beneficiaries for toolkits, and assess productivity improvements among youth who have been trained or capacitated in agricultural production.

YEAN is training 116 young PEALE agriculture extensionists under the YEFFA Program in on Yield Measurements and harvesting practices. This two-week capacity-building, equips them to operate as professional farm service providers, enabling them to calculate true profitability, reduce post-harvest losses and improve market negotiation.

The 116 PEALE extensionists will continue supporting over 14,000 young farmers in the YEFFA Eastern Province under YEAN interventions, helping them make informed production decisions, and increase productivity.

Smart Mobile phones are becoming a great tool for agronomists in co-creating and sharing agricultural knowledge products.

Yes, we know how digital technologies can be impactful when used efficiently in agriculture.

Today, in the second week of YEAN’s training held in , we are equipping our PEALE Extensionists with skills to use mobile phone technology to disseminate agricultural learning materials, to empower fellow young farmers and farmers in general through to practice good agriculture and easily spread impactful knowledge across digital platforms .

We reviewed season progress and trained 36 PEALE extensionists from Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Kayonza districtd, equipping them with skills to help farmers calculate their Season A 2026 yields as professional farm management.

Today, YEAN participated in a validation meeting organized by a YEFFA Eastern consortium member, Empower Rwanda. The meeting focused on a rapid assessment of gender barriers that hinder young women from participating in the YEFFA program.

The YEFFA program aims to create jobs and successful agripreneurs, specifically targeting 70% young women and girls and promoting agribusiness as a dignified profession.

YEAN’s Knowledge Management Team, through the , has launched a two-week capacity-building program for young professional agriculture extension agents across Rwanda’s Eastern Province.

The training is designed to enhance participants’ competencies in digital mobile-based content and information sharing, digital storytelling, and agriculture knowledge management, enabling them to co-create and disseminate actionable agricultural technologies and advisory services.

By leveraging digital tools, these youth will play a pivotal role in bridging farmer knowledge gaps, fostering adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), and promoting productivity and resilience among smallholder farmers.
