Hello Kâwezi,
How are you doing on this day? Today, March 8th, we celebrate International Womenâs Day. Itâs a day of collective mobilization to remind ourselves that the fight for womenâs equality and the respect for their rights, bodies, and minds is ongoing.
Even in contemporary times, womenâs rights are not always respected. Concerns persist, such as the potential resurgence of female ge***al mutilation (FGM) in Gambia, where a lawmaker is proposing a law to legalize the practice, which had been banned since 2015. Additionally, in Kenya, women have protested against femicides, as at least 16 women have been killed by their partners since the beginning of the year, etcâŠ..

It is crucial to be aware of organizations that protect your rights and provide information on your rights, both in terms of health and legislation. Stay informed and engaged to ensure the promotion and protection of womenâs rights in all aspects of life.
In my field, which is womenâs health, we, the midwives, play a crucial role in upholding your rights and respecting your bodies. In this regard, weâve created this platform to provide you with advice so that you can understand whatâs happening to you, and every decision regarding your pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding should be made by you and respected accordingly. Letâs respect everyoneâs rights without judgment, without reproach, and with love for each other.
And I conclude this post by sharing with you the translation of a text by Simone de Beauvoir:
« Never forget that a political, economic, or religious crisis will suffice to cast doubt on womenâs rights. These rights are never acquired. You must remain vigilant throughout your life. »
