AHF Rwanda

AHF Rwanda The largest global HIV/AIDS nonprofit providing HIV services & advocacy in 45 countries, 13 in Africa Statistics from UNAIDS.org, 2011, unless otherwise stated.

In January 2006, AHF partnered with the Global Fund, the National AIDS Control Commission and the Shyira, Kibagabaga and Kanombe District Hospitals to roll out ART programs at two government sites. Today AHF works with two district governments at six health centers. Our health centers provide HIV testing, antiretroviral therapy and prevention services integrated into general healthcare settings, i

n keeping with the national strategy to control HIV with integrated rather than standalone care. Our program for preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission is particularly strong, including education, one-on-one counseling and preventive ART for mothers and exposed infants. By including these services in primary care settings, we strengthen the quality of care for all clients, regardless of HIV status. AHF supports our health center partners through mentoring, assisting with staffing issues, improving the facilities themselves, providing medical equipment and managing operations. We assure quality of care through regular site visits and assessments. In addition to providing health center services, we’ve performed HIV testing around Rwanda as part of our mass testing initiative. Together with our partners, we tested 153,018 people in 2008, and referred the 328 who were positive to treatment.

📊 Transparency matters in the WHO Pandemic Agreement negotiations.

Decisions about who receives vaccines and treatments during a health crisis should be based on public health needs—not politics.

The EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity campaign calls for transparent, accountable rules in the Annex to ensure fairness.

🤝 A key principle in the WHO Pandemic Agreement negotiations:

Cooperation, not extraction.

If companies use pathogen samples and data to develop vaccines or treatments, they must contribute back to the global system that made those discoveries possible.

Through our EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity campaign, advocates are urging EU leaders to support mandatory benefit-sharing in the Annex.

🏭 The WHO Pandemic Agreement PABS Annex also aims to strengthen regional manufacturing.

Technology transfer and licensing can help ensure vaccines and treatments are produced in multiple regions during future health crises.

Through the EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity campaign, advocates are urging EU leaders to support these equity measures in the negotiations.

🧬 Countries around the world share pathogen samples that help scientists develop vaccines and medicines.

But under the current system, those same countries are not guaranteed fair access to the tools developed using their data.

The WHO Pandemic Agreement PABS negotiations must fix this.

The campaign EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity is calling on EU leaders to support fair and enforceable benefit-sharing rules.

💉 The goal of the WHO Pandemic Agreement is to prevent the inequities seen during .

The PABS Annex negotiations must guarantee equitable access to vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments during health emergencies—not months or years later.

The campaign EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity calls on EU leaders to support binding commitments that make this possible.

🔍 Accountability is critical to the WHO Pandemic Agreement PABS system.

If we do not know who is accessing pathogen data, we cannot ensure they follow the rules.

That’s why advocates for the EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity campaign are calling for mandatory user registration and traceability in the system.

No registration. No access.

⚠️ The WHO Pandemic Agreement cannot be ratified until the PABS Annex negotiations are completed.

This annex will determine how countries share virus samples used to develop vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments—and whether they will receive fair access to the tools created from them.

Through the campaign EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity, advocates are calling on the EU to support strong, binding benefit-sharing rules in the negotiations.

🌍 The rules for the next pandemic response are being negotiated right now.

The WHO Pandemic Agreement was adopted in 2025—but it cannot move forward until the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) Annex is finalized.

Through our campaign EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity, we are calling on European leaders to support binding equity provisions so that vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments are shared fairly in future global health emergencies.

What is decided now will shape pandemic response for a generation.
