"هل يجب علاج الحُمّى دائماً"

تُعد الحمى حالة مرضية تطورية تعود إلى ما يزيد على 600 مليون عام، وتمثل عرضاً شائعاً لمجموعة واسعة من العدوى الفيروسية والبكتيرية والفطرية، وقد اختبر معظمنا هذا العرض أثناء الإصابة بالإنفلونزا، على سبيل المثال.
كما ارتبطت الحمى تاريخياً بأمراض خطيرة، وغالباً مميتة، إلى درجة أن اسمها أصبح جزءاً من تسمية العديد من تلك الأمراض مثل: الحمى القرمزية، حمى الضنك، الحمى الصفراء، حمى لاسا، وغيرها الكثير.

"What happens when we sleep"

There are four stages of sleep that the body experiences in cycles throughout the night. On a good night we cycle through these stages four or five times.
Stages one and two are light sleep. This is a transition from being awake to falling asleep. Heart rate and breathing begin to slow, body temperature falls, and muscles may twitch. Stage 3 is sometimes referred to as Delta sleep - because of the slow Delta brainwaves that are released during this stage. This is the first stage of deep sleep where our cells produce the most growth hormone to service bones and muscles, allowing the body to repair itself. Stage 4 is where we begin to dream. The body creates chemicals that render it temporarily paralyzed so that we do not act out our dreams. In this stage, the brain is extremely active and our eyes, although closed, dark back and forth as if we were awake.

"Tympanostomy tube placement improves hearing for children with cleft palate"

Nina Wijnants, M.D., from Maastricht University Medical Center in the Netherlands, and colleagues conducted a retrospective cohort study of 44 nonsyndromic children undergoing primary single-stage cleft palate repair to examine the effectiveness of tympanostomy tube placement.

استخدمت العديد من الحضارات القديمة حول العالم، الزيوت العطرية المستخرجة من النباتات لأغراضٍ جمالية أو طبية، بحسب كل ثقافة وحضارة وحقبة زمنية. واستخدم المصريون القدماء، الزيوت المستخرجة من النباتات العطرية منذ نحو 4500 عام في مستحضرات التجميل والمراهم الطبية. كما تمّ تسجيل استخدام الزيوت العطرية "للشفاء" في الطب الصيني والهندي التقليدي بين عامي 3000 و2000 قبل الميلاد. بعد ذلك، ناقش فلاسفة من اليونان القديمة خصائص الحواس الخمس وبينهم حاسة الشم، وأكد أرسطو، وجود علاقة بين حاسة الشم والروائح واستحضار الذكريات.

"Simple blood test can predict risk of severe liver disease"

A new study from Karolinska Institutet, published in the journal The BMJ, shows how a simple blood analysis can predict the risk of developing severe liver disease. The method may already start to be applied in primary care to enable the earlier detection of cirrhosis and cancer of the liver.

"Hormone therapy eases hot flashes while leaving heart risk unchanged in younger women"

Researchers led by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute report that menopausal hormone therapy relieved vasomotor symptoms without raising cardiovascular risk in younger women, but increased risk was evident in women aged 70 years and older.

"هل مكملات "أوميغا 3" الغذائية مفيدة حقاً لمرضى السكري"

يقول باحثون من جامعة إيست أنجليا إنّ المصابين بمرض السكري من النوع الثاني "لا ينبغي تشجيعهم" على تناول مكملات زيت السمك "أوميغا 3". وتثار بعض المخاوف من أن "أوميغا 3" قد يمثل ضرراً على من يُعانون من هذا المرض. بيد أن مراجعة أجرتها "المجلة الطبية البريطانية" لما يزيد على 80 دراسة، لم ترصد دليلاً على ذلك، كما أخفقت في تحديد أي فائدة تذكر. وقالت هيئة "مرض السكري في بريطانيا" إن من الأفضل الحصول على "أوميغا 3" من تناول الأسماك التي تحتوي على زيوت كجزء من نظام غذائي صحي.

Blood pressure matters at all ages. Children with higher blood pressure at age 7 may be at an increased risk of dying of cardiovascular disease by their mid-50s, according to preliminary research presented at the American Heart Association's Hypertension Scientific Sessions 2025, held in Baltimore, September 4–7, 2025.

"اكتشف السر وراء الطعم اللذيذ في الأغذية"

"Common cold may protect against COVID-19, according to researchers"

Researchers found that people, particularly children who had a recent rhinovirus infection, were significantly less likely to become infected with SARS-CoV-2 in the following weeks. This effect is thought to be linked to the body's antiviral defenses. Rhinoviruses trigger a strong interferon response in the airways, which can temporarily prime the immune system to fight off other viruses.
