التهاب المفاصل هو تورم وشعور بألم عند لمس احد مفاصل الجسم. وأعراضه الأساسية هي ألم المفاصل وتيبسها، وتزداد سوءًا مع التقدم في العمر.
و الانواع الأكثر شيوعًا لالتهاب المفاصل هما
الالتهاب المفصلي العظمي - والتهاب المفاصل الروماتويدي.
يتسبب الالتهاب المفصلي العظمي في تكسير الغضروف؛ وهو نسيج قوي ومنزلق يغطي نهايات العظام عند مكان تكوُّن المفصل. التهاب المفاصل الروماتويدي مرض يهاجم فيه جهاز المناعة المفاصل، بدءًا من بطانة المفاصل .
