Mars Retrograde – 7 December 2024 – 24 February 2025 ~ time to reflect

Mars has been retrograde now for a number of weeks and most of us have been heavily impacted by this introspective, low-energy time.

Mars retrograde occurs every two years, for around two months and it can be a very frustrating time. Mars rules the first sign of Aries, and represents the self, how we express, project and conduct ourselves in the world. (linking also to the Rising sign or Ascendant).

Mars as a planet relates to energy, drive, passion, s*x, sport, fire, health and relationships. As how we connect to ourselves, shows the elements we attract in others.

When Mars is retrograde all of the areas that relate to the self and our energy levels are affected. A retrograde period *internalises* energy. The ways we usually interact and function are slowed down and we encounter more problems, obstacles and issues during a Mars Retrograde period.

Mars retrograde can cause a build-up of tension which overspills into our closest relationships, and may have a ripple effect impacting our connections with others too.

We are now approaching the end of this rather tumultuous Mars Retrograde period and it has been observably pronounced.
There seems to have been more ill health and lingering sicknesses and maybe I observe this because I’ve had my own persistent virus. *cough, cough*.

People ‘feel’ a bit out of sorts too and whilst I realise this is ‘normal’ for a Mars retrograde period, the political unrest underpinning our experience adds a slightly macabre layer.

This Mars retrograde period started with Mars in Leo from 7 December, crossing to Cancer on 7 January. I found it interesting (and horrific) to note the timing of this and the devastating California fires, decimating people’s family homes (Cancer) with intense, uncontrollable Mars-ruled fire.

Fire can be cleansing but, like the Tower in tarot, manifests as forced, catastrophic and shocking change.

On a personal note, Mars retrograde forces us to deal with issues that we may have been circum-navigating. Areas of discontent, overlooked health problems, or long-term stresses are often connected to our low energy and ill health at this time. Our minds and our bodies are intrinsically connected and so any neglected needs or traumas will often manifest physically when ignored.
Maybe being forced to stop and acknowledge buried issues, will help us to make better choices for our physical and mental health in the long term?

Perhaps those relationship issues which we tried to ignore *need* to be addressed and will help us be happier/more authentic in the long-run. After all, our life path is the priority on a soul level…
Mars also correlates to our first phase of life, reacquainting us with our child selves. Reminding us of our early programming and ensuing blocks and fears as adults.

As children we absorb everything around us as our truth, and sometimes we find our subconscious minds hold onto these falsehoods without us even realising. Mars retrograde can help us recognise dysfunctional patterns if we take the time to observe our responses, and to breathe before we react.

In many ways Mars retrograde offers the potential for great inner wisdom and to choose better responses (act, don’t re-act).
Mars retrograde can help us to build closer emotional bonds in our relationships if we learn to take it in turns to open up with our closest people. Truly listening and accepting another is the best gift you can give to another. However, reviewing whether the people in your life serve your highest good/spiritual path is the best gift you can give to YOURSELF!

Attachment is a man-made human construct after all!!

Unconditional love is what we all desire deep down, and it starts with accepting others ~ just as they are and loving ourselves as broken, but beautiful original masterpieces.

In the aftermath of this Autumn’s two eclipses featuring, a lunar full moon eclipse on 17 September at 25˚ Pisces and a solar, new moon eclipse on 2 October at 10˚ Libra, there has been a certain amount of tension in the air.
This period at the end of 2024 does mark a culmination of a couple of long and important astrological cycles for Pluto {and Neptune} with Pluto having revisited Capricorn from 2 September until 19 November.
Pluto in Capricorn represents change to the status quo, the constitution and traditional systems which are running outdated programmes. Astrologers actually did expect more change to the democratic Western systems than we actually experienced during Pluto’s full term in Capricorn from 2008 to March 2023.
Since March 2023 until September 2024 Pluto in Aquarius has been showing us the possibilities of better global equality, the rebuilding of communities and the benefits of being kind and considerate to one another and how important this is to mental health.
However, since it’s moved back into Capricorn, there has been a heavy overhang, and a recognition of unresolved matters which do need to shift for us to start making true changes in the world.
In a system which no longer suits the needs of the people, or the planet, it’s clear that deeper changes are still required for true progress and all of us sensitive people can feel this on a deeper and intrinsic level.
There will be big changes in 2025, as Neptune enters Aries (after being in Pisces since 2011 – causing the unexpected dissolution of good music!!).
Neptune and Pluto will both meet up at the first degree of their respective signs in March of 2025 – Neptune at 0˚ Aries, connecting to Pluto at 0˚ Aquarius.
The catalyst for change is set.
For now, focusing our energy on being as connected and kind to each other as we can, will be a balm and way to relieve any pressure. The lesson here is letting go of what we expect and allowing the natural evolution and growth to occur in its own way…but also, of course, ensuring that we are bringing the energy for positive change.
It’s a time to rest and reflect. What have you learned in the last 10-15 years? (See comments)

Simple acts of kindness and daily affirmations of gratitude can make the ‘NOW’ feel more meaningful and magical. The colourful leaves and sprouting mushrooms are inspiring in themselves.
Pluto in Aquarius will demand a reconnection of community and deeper understanding of the world around us.
No more paving and pebbling your land, here’s to nurturing the providers of oxygen, allowing wild flowers, for the bees and insects to ensure our local environment is our first priority and that we treat the people and animals around us are our spiritual family. Always.
“Be the change you want to see in the world”.

The Full Moon in Pisces on 17 September is a partial lunar eclipse. It falls at 25˚ Pisces, forming a conjunction to Neptune which is currently retrograde at 28˚ Pisces.
As Neptune is the ruler of Pisces, this connection deepens the Piscean influence and makes this Full Moon a very significant one.
Themes around ideas, dreams, creative expression, confusion and indecisiveness will be important at this time. This Full Moon Eclipse asks us to look deeper at our emotional connections and our spiritual desires. Does our day to day life connect to our soul path and our spiritual ambitions effectively?
Are we making enough time in our schedules to enjoy music, art, nature and other activities which nourish our souls and develop our connections to our higher selves.
Meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, Chi Gung and other gentle practises are extremely beneficial at this time also.
Eclipses can be about endings, that recognition of loss, or change before we feel ready to start anew and change direction.
When asked to consider endings in respect of Pisces, we may find ourselves reflecting on soulmate connections, particularly in situations where we are estranged from someone we love, or working on manifesting a relationship in the future.
For those manifesting love or resolving heartache this is a great time to reflect and meditate on love. Cleansing sage rituals and candle gazing with the accompaniment of uplifting music can be healing and purifying.
Automatic writing (such as is demonstrated in Neale Donald Walsh’s ‘Conversations with God’ book 1) can be incredibly insightful. Remember we ALL have a deep connection to wisdom and a higher self, so the potential to channel clear responses to our own questions is profoundly possible for us all.
Another important factor of this Full Moon in Pisces is that it is the FINAL Full Moon in Pisces whilst Neptune is in Pisces during our lives! So this Full Moon eclipse conjunct Neptune is very very auspicious.
Any changes which Neptune has brought to us since it moved into Pisces in 2011 will gain prominence during this Full Moon. For musicians and music fans the state of music in the Western World will come to mind immediately. Perhaps this full moon is good time to deeply consider the importance of music and creativity and observe the impact the neglect of these areas has had upon society in recent years.
Many of us Astrologers believed Neptune in Pisces would enhance the arts and whilst it has shown a rise in the understanding of mental health, the benefits of meditation and brought distance healing and reiki into the mainstream, there is no doubt music has suffered.
So, perhaps energy of this full moon to reflect upon the link between music and mental health. Perhaps it will help people to realise that soul love is so much more nourishing and fulfilling than material compatibility. Maybe we can start recognising that we are what we eat and with our bodies being more 2/3 water, our cells imprint everything we experience. Just like water does.
Happy full Moon Eclipse in Pisces conjunct Neptune! I look forward to hearing your views on it all!
