Perineoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to restore the perineum, the area between the vagina and the rectum. The surgery can correct several problems, including:
Perineal laxity: often occurs after normal childbirth, which can lead to urinary or faecal incontinence, as well as difficulty with sexual intercourse.
Vaginal prolapse: The dropping of the walls of the vagina, which may cause a feeling of weight or pressure in the area, as well as prolapse of the uterus or bladder.
Wounds or scars: from injuries or previous operations.
Congenital anomalies: such as atresia of the vagina or extra clitoris.

Perineoplasty can be performed with various techniques, depending on the type of surgery. It is usually done under general anaesthesia, but can also be done under sedation or local anaesthesia. The duration of the procedure varies, depending on its complexity, but usually lasts 1-2 hours.
