As a veterinary doctor, I recently treated a 5-week-old puppy that had stopped eating and was vomiting. Upon inquiry, I discovered the puppy has never been dewormed since birth. After administering a deworming tablet, the puppy vomited a massive number of worms which is a clear sign of severe parasitic infestation.
This is a real and dangerous situation many pet owners unknowingly expose their puppies to. Worms such as roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms are extremely common in puppies, and infestations can begin as early as birth passed on by the mother or through the environment.
Why Deworming Is So Important:
• Prevents life-threatening complications: Heavy worm loads can cause vomiting, diarrhea, anemia, weight loss, bloated belly, poor growth, and even sudden death.
• Protects your puppy’s health and development: Dewormed puppies eat better, grow stronger, and are more energetic.
• Protects human health too: Some worms (like roundworms and hookworms) can be transmitted to humans, especially children.
Recommended Deworming Schedule:
• Start at 2 weeks of age
• Repeat every 2 weeks until 12 weeks old
• Then monthly until 6 months, followed by quarterly deworming throughout life
A Simple Act That Saves Lives:👇
Neglecting deworming, as seen in the case I treated, can lead to severe and even fatal consequences. But with timely, proper deworming, your puppy can thrive and grow into a healthy, happy dog.

N/B: Deworming is not optional, it is essential.
