Shetland Creek Wildfire Update: Venables Valley, BC
To Help in BC, we’ve launched an operation to assist the communities of Cooks Ferry and Venables Valley, near Ashcroft, which have been hard-hit by the Shetland Creek wildfire. 20 structures were destroyed. Here's what we're doing:
• Our teams are removing dangerous trees and other hazards through chainsaw and mitigation work.
• We are Guiding Recovery by mentoring Venables Valley residents on recovery efforts, including ash sifting operations and safe material disposal.
• Thanks to the generosity of Labatt Breweries of Canada and their water program, we are helping to deliver much-needed Labatt’s water to the Cooks Ferry Indian Band, who have heroically led the wildfire response and urgently need supplies to continue their vital work. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, and many residents remain displaced. Several evacuation orders and alerts are still in effect, with the wildfire spanning over 24,000 hectares, one of the largest in the province.
