In a way, I think a massive part of being human is never having all you want. At least not at the same time.

As one dream comes true, another will pop in and quickly take its place so not having it all seems to be one of life’s constants. Learning to be content in the middle of not completely nailing it, of not having all you want - is how you keep life full. Desire is a beautiful and powerful thing.

For example… I still have the desire to run my own thing, to work with people and to help - but I have to come to terms with the fact that I can’t do all of that right now, because other beautiful things are going on too.

And that’s fine.

🪷 Spring Thought 🪷

If you don’t know what to pursue in life right now,
Pursue yourself.
Pursue becoming the healthiest, happiest, most healed, most present, most confident version of yourself.

Then the right decisions will reveal themselves.

Life lately - globetrotter edition:

🇫🇷 Paris trip for a spring dose of Fashion, Friends & Family - albeit one day late due to WW2 bombs in Gare du Nord and cancelled trains. Got there just in time for a fantastic Stephen Jones exhibition at Palais Galliera. Was also completely mesmerised by the renovation of Notre Dame. I can’t believe they got it done in five years. Well done Macron! I hope this cathedral can serve as a reminder - and possibly also a shrine to - human team spirit and coming together to rebuild something for the greater good of the Many. It’s amazing what humans can do when we actually want to. God knows the world needs a symbol for successful team work right now. The church is magnificent again. Go if you can. The queue moves quickly.

🇬🇧 Seeing Banks up close at my happy place Rough Trade - with my other Happy Place and Forever Gig Buddy .abery. I bet you we’ll keep rollin’ up that ramp with our Swarovski bedazzled walkers to drink Red Stripe and get our music micro chip signed (or however we’ll be listening to music then) in 2065 too.

🇸🇪 Surprise baby shower for in Stockholm. Saw many old High School pals. Drank many glasses of wine. Made many dumplings. Had many laughs. Forgot to ask how everyone was since we were all too busy discussing ta**ra retreats, Storage Wars and pinball machines. Baby Dyer is lucky to soon join this mad gang 🐣
[Not pictured] Traditional hot pot with Erika - because I can’t go to Stockholm without fitting that in too ❤️

Also thrown in; World Book Day, rainbows & lots of sugar.

Coming up: Hosting the school quiz night, Sixten’s birthday party, family visits and multiple evening events & concerts. And then Easter.

I NEED A NAP.

“There seemed to be many more men in the hall than women. “Do all the women come”, I ask. The guide shook her head. “Too busy”, she said.

And that seem to be true in so many religions. Buddha left his wife and young son to go and sit under a banyan tree. There he contemplated the world.

I expect Mrs Buddha didn’t have time.”

📖 From ‘Between the stops” by Sandi Toksvig.
📷 Pictured: A dozing cat, in a Banyan tree, Botanical gardens, Mauritius. I’m assuming he’s male.

I remember reading an article about how a) 99.6% of the world’s inventions are by men (I can’t find the article or actual number but this seems like an informed estimate) and b) how very few of them would have been possible hadn’t there been a Mrs Inventor in the background making sure Mr Inventor was clothed, fed, beer’d and kept away from noisy children so that his clever mind could be used towards bettering humanity.

Most men I know nowadays have at least three hobbies. Very few of my women friends do - unless you count self-help books, watching tidying videos online, comparing hoover reviews and scrolling Instagram for fun things to do with kids on the weekend “hobbies”. It’s not like we don’t want to - trust me, the amount of women (especially mums) who have said to me they don’t even know what they enjoy anymore, are MANY. And they WOULD like a hobby, they just don’t know where to start, and where their identity of “Mrs” or “Mum” ends and that of their actual name begins.

I’d like us to get some more time back, please. We have too much on our plates to figure this one out ourselves unfortunately, so we need support. There are twelve school WhatsApp groups with messages we have to answer first. The dads muted them because it was “too much”.

I think we all would like to see what a world with more Mrs Inventors would be like. The men in charge currently aren’t the most impressive, I think we agree on that. And that’s unfair, because they give men a bad rap. I love men! But there’s a reason we tell our kids to find a mum if they get lost during a school trip and need help, and that says a lot.

So a happy belated International Women’s Day to us all. We shouldn’t need a day.

As part of a course, we had to describe ourselves as a video game character - and I just found my old notes from that. I asked AI to get me a visual representation of it for fun, and it had a FIELD DAY and created a whole gaming character description as well, without me even asking. It’s pretty accurate 😆 (I’m esp. fond of the Chardonnay alchemy 😎)

The one superpower I’m so proud to have is that I have perfected making ordinary moments great.

☕️ Hyping myself up internally for my morning coffee, having a little chat with the baristas, taking the first sip as if it’s the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had.

🕯️ Waking up a little earlier, fluffy bathrobe, scented candle in the dark and watching my favourite series before the house wakes up.

👗 Making an effort to put on nice clothes, especially on those days you feel like defrosted p**p.

🥂 NEVER refusing anything sparkly.

🌹 Putting fresh flowers on my desk at work and listening to bossa nova.

This is totally inherited from my mom - and it used to drive me nuts. We would be sitting down to watch the latest episode of whatever soap we were following and all of a sudden she would faff around with tea cups on silver trays, lighting candles and fluffing cushions to make the moment as good as it could be. And I’d be like… can we just get on with watching the thing please? But no. She was giving herself (and me - I’ve since realised) the gift of a perfect moment together.

She’d frantically clean the kitchen floor right before we were due to leave to go on holiday because she loves the feeling of coming home to a clean house. She was giving herself that gift for later. And of course - coming home from the airport in the middle of the night a week later, it was amazing to open the door to a house that smelled of lemony kitchen spray.

When I look back at my childhood and teenage years, what are the things I remember? These moments.

So here’s a little reminder to keep asking yourself:

How good can I let this moment be?

For me NOW, or for me LATER. (or maybe both)

Live like you want to remember it in hindsight 🤍

[Picture from Thailand when I got to meet an elephant for the first time. A core memory for sure. Of course it was mum who made that happen ♥️]
