Turns out you can tear your pelvic floor off the bone.
A levator avulsion…but what is it?
It’s when one side of the pelvic floor muscles (specifically the levator ani group) tears away from the p***c bone, often from childbirth.
I have a right-sided avulsion, which means I have to strengthen one side and relax (down-train) the other. It’s tricky work!
The key to my rehab has been:
• Managing pressure (especially when lifting or moving)
• Breathwork (learning to coordinate breath and core)
• Activating the deep core and pelvic floor
• Full body strength, not just focusing on the pelvis!
It’s a slow, focussed journey, but so worth it for regaining strength and confidence.
Healing a levator avulsion isn’t talked about enough. If you’re on this path too, what’s been working for you?
