This week, Norwegian media are highlighting a young royal family member who is accused of a crime. And in some of the articles I detect a certain class related judgment.
Some people seem to think that if you belong to a certain class or family in society, you should not engage in criminal activities. This notion, is of course absurd, as criminal offenses are committed on all levels of society, regardless of status or "class".
Some criminal offenses are a result of the heat of the moment. Some are a result of financial difficulty. Some are a result of drugs and alcohol. Some are a result of emotional damage and some are committed by people who have no sense of moral responsibility or empathy.
Wouldn't it be awesome if we, instead of judging a behavior based on unrealistic expectations, opened our minds and hearts to understand what triggered the behavior, so we can all learn something about ourselves, regardless of class or status?
I firmly believe that in order for us to change the world for the better, we need to embody this change. That means less finger pointing and more self adjustment. If we use the opportunity, when we are annoyed or enraged by someone else's action or inaction, to acknowledge what is simlar within ourselves, we then have the power to make a real change.
We cannot change other people. But we can change our own behavior. We can gain new perspectives. We can heal old emotional wounds. We can embrace new ideas. And we can co-create a whole new world based on these new ideas, born from a healthier self and higher perspective.
