🌱 GWP and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), through their joint Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP), were proud to actively contribute to the 23rd Session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention ( ) in Panama.

This engagement marks another milestone in a decade-long partnership with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), which co-established IDMP in 2013. Since its inception, IDMP and UNCCD have championed a shared agenda: driving a paradigm shift from reactive crisis management to proactive, risk-based . This joint effort has become a true success story – built on collaboration with countries, partners, and communities across the globe.

With companies increasingly committing to , and targets, many to be reached by 2030, how can businesses accelerate meeting these targets, while also aligning their investments with public sector water priorities? That is the starting point for GWP’s ambitious approach to bridge sustainable investment gaps for water, in priority basins across the world.

As part of its 2026–2030 Strategy, the GWP network draws on its local water intelligence and close ties to public institutions to identify readily accessible investment opportunities for corporate partners. GWP’s approach can reduce delivery timeframes and transaction costs, while increasing long-term impact.

📖 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 (𝗔𝗪𝗗𝗢) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 launched!

AWDO – The Index of for Asia and the Pacific – finds that more than 60% of Asia and the Pacific’s population has been lifted from extreme water insecurity over the past 12 years, but these hard-won gains are threatened by accelerating environmental decline and a major financing gap.

Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s report was launched today, 8 December, at the open plenary at the IWA Water and Development Congress in Thailand.

GWP contributed to the report, alongside University of Oxford, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), The University of Queensland, the International Center for Water Hazards and Risk Management, the International WaterCentre, Griffith University, and the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education.

Specifically, GWP was lead author of the analysis of and in Asia-Pacific, as well as deeper dives in five countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan, and Tajikistan.

By linking AWDO insights with .5.1 results and the water intelligence of its network across the region, GWP is reinforcing the case for scaling up investments in water governance and resilience. Stronger implementation not only enhances security but also lays the foundation for sustainable and climate-resilient economies.

Communities of Learning and Practice (CLPs) are helping countries turn knowledge into real action on the ground. 🌍💧

The UNCCD CLPs, steered by regional and global co-chairs, with support from GWP and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, offer a platform where the drought community can share, interact, collaborate, and learn from each other to build faster.

Ahead of , UNCCD asked four CLP Co-Chairs why CLPs matter and how they connect practitioners, decision makers and experts across regions. Read their reflections in this article 👉 https://bit.ly/4oFr9GF

The devastating floods across South and Southeast Asia have not only taken lives and destroyed infrastructure, they have laid bare a deeper crisis: the failure of public investment systems to protect people due to corruption, mismanagement, and opacity.

🗨️ “In the Philippines, investigations suggest that up to ₱118.5 billion (USD 2.1 billion) in flood infrastructure investments may be lost annually to corruption. Ghost projects, substandard works, and diverted budgets are widespread, all while ordinary citizens continue to drown in the consequences. Mass demonstrations are rightly asking: Where did the money go? Why weren’t we protected? This is not just a domestic issue. It erodes global trust in climate adaptation financing. As emerging economies press their case for Loss and Damage compensation at COP, donor confidence hinges on one thing: accountability” – Atem S. Ramsundersingh

At the Global Water Partnership (GWP), we believe Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) must evolve. It can no longer remain confined to ministries and consultants. Citizens must be directly informed, empowered, and engaged.

That is why GWP’s new Strategy 2026–2030 makes the democratisation of data and information a cornerstone of water security in a world threatened by climate change.

Communities need real-time access to public investment plans and budgets, contractor selections and progress reports, quality control data and feedback channels. There is no technical barrier to get this done. The technology exists. What is missing is the political will and systems transformation to put this power in the hands of the people. Talking at COPs is not enough. People are seeing the impacts firsthand: flooded homes, closed schools, failed crops, collapsing trust. It is time to move from climate talk to civic tech, and from top-down control to co-governance and transparency.

GWP stands ready to lead this shift, leveraging our global reach, regional partnerships, and policy platforms like the to bring governments, tech providers, civil society, and financiers together.
