💧 Water Sweden, an initiative of GWP in collaboration with Nordic Business Services (NBS), will participate in the AWSISA Africa & Global South Water & Sanitation Dialogue, taking place from 9-12 November 2025 at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.

The Water Sweden stand is proudly organised in close collaboration with Business Sweden (Pretoria) and the Embassy of Sweden in Pretoria, highlighting strong Swedish partnerships and shared commitment to sustainable water solutions in the region.

As part of GWP’s renewed focus on private-sector engagement under the GWP Strategy 2026-2030, Water Sweden will showcase innovative Swedish companies that are contributing cutting-edge solutions to global water and sanitation challenges:

💧 Sweco – sustainable engineering and design solutions for water, energy, and infrastructure.

💧 GWP will be participating in the AWSISA Africa & Global South Water & Sanitation Dialogue, taking place from 9-12 November 2025 at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.

As part of the official programme, Alex Simalabwi, CEO of GWPO and Executive Secretary of GWP, will report on the outcomes of the AU-AIP Africa Water Investment Summit, held in August 2025 in Cape Town.

Mr. Simalabwi will highlight Africa’s progress in advancing and sanitation investments and showcase the next steps in operationalising the G20 Presidential Legacy – Global Outlook Council on Water Investments and the Global Water Investment Platform, which aims to mobilise USD 10-12 billion in sustainable water investments.

GWP looks forward to engaging with stakeholders from across Africa and the Global South to accelerate action on water and sanitation finance, governance, and innovation.

💧 During the 2025 Regional Water Week for Latin America and the Caribbean, on 8 October Fabiola Tabora Merlo, Regional Coordinator of GWP Centroamérica, presented GWP’s Strategy 2026-2030 at the session “Closing the Implementation and Financing Gap for Water Security in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The Strategy promotes a new paradigm of centered on finance and investment, governance, and knowledge, data, and digital transformation. By 2030, it seeks to mobilise at least USD 15 billion in water investments through five strategic interventions.

Southeast Asia faces one of the most critical decades for water management – where climate change, urbanisation, and rapid population growth demand urgent and coordinated action.

At yesterday’s regional webinar, “Policy to Practice: Regional Exchange on Integrated Water Resources Management,” hosted by Global Water Partnership-Southeast Asia, regional and global leaders came together to explore how stronger governance, inclusive investment, and innovation can drive .

The event also marked the regional launch of GWP’s Strategy 2026-2030, which sets an ambitious path to influence USD 15 billion in climate-resilient water investments and help at least 30 countries mobilise USD 500 million in financing by 2030.

Mr. Alex Simalabwi, CEO of GWPO & Executive Secretary of GWP, will speak at the 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, taking place 2–3 November at the Four Seasons Hotel, Riyadh.

Hosted by the Saudi Water Partnership Company, the Forum unites global and regional leaders to accelerate sustainable growth across Saudi Arabia’s water sector and the wider Middle East and North Africa region – through innovation, public-private partnerships, and institutional collaboration.

More than 25 representatives from several Ministries together with basin agencies and national Direct Access Entities, took part in a three-day training (27–29 October) under the AU-AIP Multi-Country Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Project, empowering national stakeholders to build the skills to design high-quality, bankable projects that advance national climate priorities.

💬 Dr. Sarra Touzi, GWP Senior Water and Climate Resilience Specialist, commended Morocco’s progress, including the accreditation of four national Direct Access Entities, and invited the country to share its rich experience through the AU-AIP knowledge management platform to inspire peers across Africa.

The AU-AIP Multi-Country GCF Readiness Project is paving the way for a more climate-resilient and inclusive Africa – accelerating investment in gender-responsive climate action and empowering countries to develop strategic frameworks and investment programmes for sustainable water management.

On 17 October, an upgrade of the Schimatari Water Treatment Plant in Tanagra Municipality, Greece, was inaugurated under the Zero Drop project implemented by Global Water Partnership Mediterranean with funding from long-standing partner The Coca-Cola Foundation – in close collaboration with the Municipality of Tanagra.

The upgrade involves a new system that:

💧 Eliminates water losses entirely
💧 Saves at least 15% of the plant’s daily
💡 Reduces energy use by up to 10%

During last week’s Finance Plenary at the SWA Sector Ministers’ Meeting in Madrid, Mr. Alex Simalabwi, CEO – GWP, highlighted:

💧 GWP’s involvement in the Africa Water Investment Summit 2025 that showcased a USD 10–12 billion annual pipeline to address Africa’s water financing gap and launched a Global Outlook Council on Water Investments as a G20 Presidential Legacy Initiative.

💧 GWP’s engagement with diverse regional and national partners, including recent first steps taken towards a USD 20 billion investments for Latin America & the Caribbean, led by a Panel of current and former Heads of States from the region.

The plenary, “𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲,” discussed the changing role of official development assistance, the evolution of concessional finance, and the need for enhancing sector efficiencies through high-level political leadership, such as Heads of State Initiatives.
