As a wellness enthusiast, one question I often get is:

What’s the difference between holistic and traditional medicine?

And it’s a fair question!

While they are both types of medicine, there are several key differences that set them apart.

First and foremost, traditional medicine understands the human body as a purely physical entity.

This means that medical treatments typically aim to treat symptoms of physical pain or distress.

Some of the most common forms of treatment are drugs, surgery, and radiation.

On the other hand, holistic medicine understands human beings as multifaceted — and considers the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit.

A holistic approach takes each aspect of an individual’s life into account in order to uncover the underlying causes of illness.

As such, holistic treatments aim to improve the person’s overall condition and wellbeing.

Holistic medicine often incorporates many traditional treatments — so you don’t necessarily have to choose between the two!

Holistic wellness is all about helping you become more aware of your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual states.

Holistic wellness incorporates a wide array of healing practices that fall outside of traditional Western medicine.

These alternative methods help integrate traditional medicines and holistic healing practices — offering a more wholesome treatment of the individual.

So if you want to learn more about holistic wellness, here are three healing practices for your consideration:

1) Alternative Therapies — these are healing practices that use plants and other organic materials to treat various illnesses. Aromatherapy is a popular example.

2) Body-Based Healing Methods — these healing practices use physical movement or touch to treat health issues. For instance, physiotherapy.

3) Mind-Body Interventions — these include behavioral, psychological, social, and spiritual approaches to healing. We’re strong proponents of mindfulness meditation.

By integrating traditional medicine and holistic healing practices, you can treat every part of your being and work towards a more unified whole.

Did you know that there are four different types of stress?

Shocking, we know — try not to stress about it too much ;)

The four types of stress are


1) Emotional — such as anger, fear, guilt, and shame.
2) Mental — such as perfectionism, anxiety, and worry.
3) Physical — such as poor nutrition, physical exhaustion, and lack of sleep.
4) Psycho-Spiritual — such as lack of spiritual connection and relationship challenges.

Stress is a natural part of life — but too much of it can cause all kinds of health issues.

So what can we do about it?

I recommend taking a holistic approach to managing stress. Holistic stress management involves nourishing different parts of ourselves and our lives.

Here’s what that may look like:

-Staying hydrated and eating nutritious foods.
-Creating connections and socializing with friends.
-Exercising regularly and getting proper rest.
-Practicing mindfulness and meditation to regulate the nervous system.
-Journaling and tracking habits.
