What happens when you combine two of the most reliable biometric signals — face and iris — in a single system? 👁️🔐

You get identity verification that’s dramatically harder to spoof, without adding friction for the user.

Smart Eye and FPC are now demonstrating a multi-modal capability that combines facial authentication with iris recognition captured by the same camera.

Together, the two signals enable identity verification that can reach probabilities of false match as low as one in a billion, while still working naturally at distances of up to three meters.

This kind of seamless authentication opens up interesting possibilities across , , law enforcement, and other access-controlled settings.

We’ll be demonstrating the combined capability live at .

Successful collaborations tend to grow over time. 📈

A European truck manufacturer is extending its use of Smart Eye’s Driver Monitoring System ( ) software to two additional truck models, after previously integrating the technology across several vehicle programs.

The new models are planned to enter production in 2028.

ADDW. DDAW. GSR. Euro NCAP. ⚖️

If you follow in-cabin safety in Europe right now, there’s a lot of overlapping terminology.

And with Advanced Driver Distraction Warning ( ) systems becoming mandatory for all new cars sold in the EU from July 2026 (just four months away!), understanding how these requirements actually work is becoming more relevant by the month.

We’ve created a structured guide that breaks down:

• What ADDW and DDAW systems are expected to detect
• How requirements differ from scoring
• When the rules apply to new types vs. all new vehicles
• What the regulation means in practice

📘If you want a clear overview without digging through legislation, you can download the guide here: https://hubs.ly/Q045kBDP0

Integrating new tech into a simulator can sound like a disruptive process. You might be picturing new hardware, new workflows, weeks of rework. 👁️

But integrating data doesn’t have to mean rebuilding what already works.

Today’s systems are built to plug into existing simulator setups, syncing gaze data with simulator events and feeding attention insights into the debrief tools instructors already use.

The payoff is a better understanding of how trainees manage attention and workload, without turning the simulator upside down.

In this blog, we look at what makes integrations work in , , and simulators, and why the hardest part is rarely technical.

Last week’s news was big — but what does it actually mean in practice? 🔍

With the agreement to acquire Sightic, Smart Eye is expanding its impairment detection capabilities with specialized alcohol- and drug-impairment detection that’s been developed and validated over several years.

What matters now is how that capability is used.

Intoxication detection is no longer something that lives only in research projects or pilots. It needs to run in production vehicles, work at scale, and fit into OEM programs without adding unnecessary complexity. That’s the context this acquisition sits in.

In a recent interview with Redeye AB, Smart Eye's CEO and Founder Martin Krantz and Sightic’s co-founders Jenny Johansson and Stefanie Najafi talk about why this combination makes sense and how the technology is being developed with real-world deployment in mind.

Smart Eye has entered into an agreement to acquire Sightic. 🚀

Sightic has spent years building specialized alcohol- and drug-impairment detection. Smart Eye already has impairment detection in fleet and aftermarket vehicles, built on a platform designed to scale across OEM programs.

Bringing the two together strengthens our impairment detection capabilities and helps get this technology into production vehicles faster.

Together, we can cover distraction, fatigue, alcohol, and drugs within a single automotive-grade behavioral impairment detection system, supported by the world’s largest behavioral impairment datasets of its kind.

Alcohol impairment detection is officially entering series production. 🚀

Smart Eye has secured its first design wins with a new Japanese OEM customer. And, for the first time in the industry, alcohol impairment detection is part of the Driver Monitoring System ( ) delivery.

The two new cars are scheduled for production in 2028, with an estimated order value of SEK 50 million.

has wrapped, but a few things are still very much on our minds.

Some trends on the show floor were hard to miss. And no, we're not just talking about the John Deere hats that were all over the West Hall. 🤠

This year, AI finally felt less like a buzzword and more like something people are trying to make useful. Agentic AI was everywhere. Smarter digital assistants too. And there was a lot more talk about how users actually experience and interact with in-car systems.

We also saw a flood of sensor technologies, serious interest in intoxication detection, and a growing focus on how all of this gets integrated into real vehicles — not just concept demos.

🎥 In the video below, see Smart Eye's Jay Turcot and Matthew Remijn, along with Sense Media Group's Sara Sargent, share their take on the trends they noticed at CES 2026.

You can replay a simulator session a hundred times and still not know why it went wrong. 👁️

In , ( ), rail, and other safety-critical training environments, debriefs are very good at showing what happened.

They are much less helpful at explaining why a trainee responded the way they did.

Traditional systems capture performance, not perception. They don’t show what the operator actually noticed, missed, or fixated on when seconds mattered.

This article explores how and attention data helps instructors get past guesswork and see what actually shaped each decision.
