Endometriosis is often spoken about as a condition of the uterus or ovaries — but for many women, the story goes much deeper.
In some cases, endometriosis doesn’t just sit near nerves.

When this happens, pain is no longer limited to menstrual cramping.

Inside the pelvis lies a complex “wiring system” — including the pelvic plexus and sacral plexus.
These nerve bundles transmit signals between the uterus, va**na, bladder, bowel, hips, and legs.
When deep infiltrating endometriosis develops near areas such as:
• the uterosacral ligaments
• the pelvic sidewall
• the re**um
• or pathways close to the sciatic nerve
it may 𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬.
Over time, affected nerves can become 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝, 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫-𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞.

When pelvic nerves are involved, pain may present as:
• burning or electric sensations
• shooting pain down the buttock, hip, or leg
• pins and needles in the groin, v***a, or thighs
• deep aching that worsens with sitting or standing
• sudden “shock-like” pain with movement
• numb areas alongside extreme tenderness
Because nerves carry signals far from their origin,

This is one reason many women are sent for spinal scans or physiotherapy — while the pelvic nerve pathways are overlooked.

Long-term nerve irritation trains the nervous system to stay on high alert.
The brain and spinal cord begin responding more quickly and intensely to signals — even those that shouldn’t be painful.
As a result, everyday sensations like:
• a full bladder
• bowel movements
• gentle touch
• stretching
• intimacy
can feel threatening.

Living in a body where normal movement triggers sharp or burning pain is exhausting — physically and emotionally.
When tests return “normal” and symptoms are dismissed, many women begin to question themselves.

Management is deeply individual and may involve:
• specialised surgical care in select cases
• strategies that recognise neuropathic pain
• pelvic floor therapy to calm long-guarded muscles
• gentle movement to reassure the nervous system
• trauma-aware, compassionate pain support
