📍Umeå is Avensia’s smallest office with currently two people, one Norwegian one Skåning. The office is located on the university campus, more specifically in the premises of the old nightclub Corona.
We are part of a larger Working-lab where we share facilities with both established companies and hungry start-ups. Here we can land and work in a pleasant and creative environment when we are not out visiting our customers.

With the roles of Client Director and Business Strategist, we work exclusively with creating value for our customers. We work broadly with Avensia’s entire offering, but our DNA is based in Information Management.

👋🏻Meet Magnus, a director of Development in Information Management at Avensia, based at the Lund Office. Magnus was recently in Cebu visiting our colleagues and we asked him some questions.

🔸What are some key social customs or traditions in Cebu that Swedes may find surprising, and vice versa?

In Cebu, there is a fantastic spirit of hospitality, that almost makes us swedes blush. Our Philippine colleagues buy us souvenirs, takes us to events and spoils us with all sorts of treats.
It is obvious when in Cebu that we Swedes have a direct communication and a consensus culture. In Cebu friendliness and showing that we are on the same side, is prioritized rather than directness.
The Filipinos seems crazy about Christmas. Christmas songs are on repeat from September to December, and there are stores selling Christmas decorations only.

🔸How have you seen cultural differences influence collaboration between teams in Sweden and Cebu?

Sometime there are of course misunderstandings as Swedes and Filipino’s can have totally different ideas about the outcome of a meeting, even though we said the same words... When at it´s best, the Swedish efficiency, structure always paving the way for a proper decision making, is combined with the Filippino willingness to walk the extra mile, offering the personal competence with a captivating laugh.

🔸What did you like most about Cebu?

The tropical climate, closeness to the sea and the dynamic vibe of old and new in the very same place. Every now and then I remind myself about how the people in the Philippines seems to treasure the happiness of the moment far more than us Swedes.

The Christmas party season is almost wrapped up! 🎄✨ This week, Stockholm takes the stage for one final celebration, but over the past weeks, we’ve already partied in Oslo, Göteborg, Helsingborg, and Malmö/Lund.
Some of our parties went full-on AFTER SKI mode – and it definitely shows! 🎿🍻 It’s been an absolute blast, and we’re already counting down to the next gathering. 🥳
