Dr Vodders Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD):

MLD was first devised by Dr Emil Vodder and his wife Estrid Vodder in the early 1030's in France. It is a technique which is practiced in many European hospitals and clinics today. Dr Vodder therapists are required to attend review classes every 2 years for re-certification. MLD is an advanced therapy in which the practitioner uses a range of specialized an

d gentle rhythmic pumping techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This stimulates the lymphatic vessels, which carry substances vital to the defense of the body and removes waste products. MLD can also be applied to help re-route the lymph flow around and away from blocked, swollen or damaged areas to other healthy functioning lymph vessels. The effects of MLD are numerous:

It generally affects your autonomic nervous system; causing an overall pleasant and relaxing effect. It may have an effect on your immune system and in thus doing so ward of illness. The first session will involve a short consultation to determine the client’s needs and at this stage the number and frequency of future sessions will be decided upon. The treatment can take anything between 45 minutes with the therapist concentrating on a localized area, up to two to three hours when working on the whole body. Very interesting report on the possible negative impact of tattoos on the lymphatic system. This study shows the presence of abnormal lymphatic drainage under tattooed skin areas in an unexpectedly high number of patients. Consequently, further works are justified to define the causative factors of these lesions to a greater degree. Such lymphatic alterations should also be considered in patients with limb edema or at risk for edema.
