What if your dreadlocks looked like this?

Here is my client Zanna that decided to jump on her second try at dreadlocks.

As always we started with a chat over video of what it was that she wanted with her hair so that I could get an understanding of what her dream was.

I mixed different type of brownish colors to achieve a match to her hair color so that her dreadlocks with extensions would look this amazing.

Just as you can see in the before and after photo you can see that the extra spark is in her eye when I was finished with her hair.
She said it just felt right to have dreadlocks again.

Only dreadlock clients will understand this

The feeling when you have freshly maintained dreadlocks.

For me even if it feels a bit tight it is a feeling that everything is put into the right place and it feels clean and cleared up.

I get the question a lot of how often should I have my dreadlocks maintained?
This is a very personal question some of my clients come every three months and some come once a year, it really depends on how you like to wear your dreadlocks and how well your own hair locks up.

One of the things that I hear from my clients coming to me is that the idea of getting dreadlocks have been in the back of their minds for years.

I always ask the question what is it that has been preventing you to take the leap and get the dreadlocks that you always wanted.

The list is long of things………

Most of the things on the list is things that has to do with what other people think…

It is interesting when it comes to so many different things in life that the choices that we make are depended on someone else and not what we ourselves want or wish for.

From a young age we are being taught ways of life and what is expected of us and it is so easy to fall into a pattern of doing ”the expected”. This comes down to everything not just your hair.

You are allowed to do the things that you dream of!

Does it not become boring to work with dreadlocks?
It is such repetitive work?

For me it is still after +20 years so much fun because I get to be creative, I get to meet and get to know so many beautiful interesting people.
It is mind blowing that I get to be able to be apart of my clients lives.

There have been times during these years when I have thought that now is the time for me to move on to something else.

My deep love for this craft and for the clients coming to me makes me jump right back in over and over again.

Yes it is true that I have been doing this work for over 26 years now, it feels crazy just to think about it.

I still truly love to make transformations like this, and it is so much fun to be able to join in on the whole journey.

With each and every client I always start with a video consultation so that we can talk with eachother, I get to hear your vision and I can truly see if it is possible to do or not.

Sometimes I pre make the dreadlocks extensions and sometimes not it really depends on several different things.

One key component to my work is mixing hair extension hair in different colors to get a perfect match. This will really help with making the extensions look natural over time.

Something that you will not get if you order factory made dreadlock extensions.

Once I start creating I have a hard time stopping and some how when I’m in the zone it just happens of it self.

One dreadlock at the time.

Creating a full head of mini dreadlocks with extensions takes a lot from me as a loctician!

First of all for me to even be able to create a head of hair like this I can not make it into a mathematical thing.

I need to remove my logical brain and fall into a flow state of mind, that is when my body just starts to create automatically and just keeps going.

I let my clients know that I do not know when we are going to be finished today, let me know when you need to take a break.

This is because once I’m in a flow state time disappears, I do not feel hunger either.

The beauty of this is for me now days I get to create beautiful heads of dreadlocks like this and have lovely chats with my clients.

I feel truly blessed that the clients that come to me are also very beautiful people that I get to share some time with and get to know while they get their hair done.

So yes creating a head of dreadlocks with over 100 mini dreadlocks is worth both the time and fysical effort.
