What led to the pain or discomfort in my body? A frequently asked question by my patients.
It’s often difficult to trace it back to just one specific event. Typically, our bodies develop a series of compensatory patterns throughout our lives. Each day, we encounter numerous physical forces that our bodies must endure. These include gravity, falls, sports activities, and even the weight and movement of our internal organs—elements I refer to as physical forces. While the spine is inherently structured to handle these forces, maintaining an upright posture can be quite demanding, leading to twists and bends over time.
Nature has a remarkable way of enabling the body to adapt, so when these twists and bends occur, compensatory mechanisms kick in to maintain function. This adaptation process can continue until the body reaches its limit, at which point discomfort, pain, or other serious symptoms may arise. These compensation patterns can build up like layers of an onion, requiring us to “peel back” these layers to uncover the root cause, which may reveal a completely different pattern than what appeared on the surface. Treatment focuses on addressing these twists, bends, and compensatory mechanisms.
