It is common that first time patients worry about the size and feeling of the acupuncture needles. Which I totally understand, as the only experience they’ve had with needles so far is at the doctor’s office for either administered medicine (such as vaccines) or to collect blood.

Thankfully for us, acupuncture needles are way thinner and softer. It isn’t hollow as it does not need to physically transfer anything in or out of the body, unlike hypodermic needles (seringue). The function of an acupuncture needle is to stimulate the muscle/energy.

The sensation describe by patients of course varies from one to another but is mostly described as a mild pinching sensation that disappears instantly to procure a relaxing state in the body and mind.

Overall an acupuncture treatment is non invasive and a highly relaxing and resting experience.

If you are still nervous about needles but curious about TCM, please talk to me.
TCM is full of technics and tools that we can use to best treat you and help you for a better overall health.

▫️Acupuncture helps prevent injury. Because acupuncture can reactivate weak muscles and decrease muscle tension, it can also be used as a preventative measure against injury.

▫️Acupuncture helps you recover more quickly from an injury. If a muscle is torn, acupuncture won’t put it back together, but for sprains and strains, muscle soreness and tendonitis, acupuncture can decrease inflammation and speed the healing process.

▫️Acupuncture can reduce the need for “rest days.” If you just had an intense workout and your muscles are sore, getting acupuncture afterward can loosen the muscles and decrease soreness so you don’t have to take a day off to recuperate before training again.

▫️Acupuncture can improve flexibility, decrease muscle tension and increase muscle activation. This is done with motor point acupuncture. The motor point is where the brain attaches to the muscle via the motor nerve. By using needles to stimulate a motor point, it is like rebooting a phone or computer that isn’t working well: Motor point acupuncture is autoregulating, in that it can deactivate a tight muscle or reactivate an inhibited or weak muscle.

▫️Acupuncture can provide immediate pain relief. Some studies show that acupuncture can provide as much as if not more pain relief than medication. It differs for everyone, and it depends on what is being treated, but some people say they feel a difference right after a session, and others say they feel better about 20 to 30 minutes later.” Pain relief can last from a few hours to a few days.

Facial acupuncture, also know as cosmetic acupuncture, is a natural and rejuvenating procedure designed to reduce the signs of aging. It stimulates the production of collagen, helps improve elasticity, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.

Facial acupuncture treatment is an extension of traditional acupuncture. It is an ancient traditional method that naturally help make the skin look younger, smoother, and all- around healthier. Unlike injection procedures, facial acupuncture addresses not only signs of aging, but also the skin’s overall health. It is considered by many as a painless and non-surgical alternative to surgery.
It includes the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on a patient’s face and body. These needles are used to target problem areas of agging skin, wrinkles, discoloration and puffiness.

Cosmetic acupuncture also firms weakened facial muscles and improves circulation, which allows the patient to feel and look energized and radiant.
It works internally to optimize your health while simultaneously enhancing the appearance of your skin

Cosmetic Acupuncture
✨COMING SOON at Acupuncture Studio✨

While the popular technique gua sha has recently taken over the cosmetic world, its use in traditional Chinese medicine goes back centuries. Between its effective remedy for swollen or red skin and its longstanding track record of usefulness in Eastern medicine, gua sha offers a myriad of benefits for one's skin and health.

In traditional Chinese medicine, gua sha is commonly used to alleviate muscle soreness, pain, and certain illnesses, as well as increase the body’s blood flow by scraping a tool, stone, or one’s own hands across certain areas of the body. This practice, and other areas of Chinese medicine, have been passed down for generations and are based on the idea of a connection between one's mind, body, and energy (qi).

For beauty purposes, facial gua sha implements the same methods used on the body to improve skin issues like redness, wrinkles, muscle or joint pain, and elasticity.

Did you know that most digestive issues stem from our bad lifestyle habits, unhealthy diet and stress? This means that by taking steps to improve your lifestyle, you can help alleviate and even prevent many of these problems from occurring.

Self care tips to avoid common digestive issues:
•Avoid overeating and have regular and smaller meals
•Reduce intake of stomach irritants such as dairy, cold, uncooked and oily fried food
•Maintain a work life balance and avoid staying up late
•Exercise regularly at least 3 times a week
•Engage in stress relieving activities like yoga and meditation
•Practise regular bowel habits of going to the toilet at the same time daily
•Do not exercise on a full stomach. Opt to exercise before a meal or at least an hour after a meal

All in all, food and stress are external factors affecting our digestive system, leading to these common digestive disorders. Since syndrome differentiation is the essence of TCM and there is “no one size fits all” treatment plan, a consultation to more accurately diagnose your body constitution is best. Depending on your condition, a personalised acupuncture treatment can be prescribed to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Symptoms of insomnia include an inability to sleep normally, a shorter sleep duration than normal (generally less than 4-6 hours), difficulty falling asleep at night (taking more than 30 minutes to fall asleep), waking up frequently or easily, frequent dreaming or disturbed sleep, and waking with having difficulty falling asleep again (waking more than two times during the night or waking before dawn and being unable to go back to sleep). All of these result in decreased quality of sleep and eventually, can cause an inability to sleep at all during the night. This, in turn, causes daytime drowsiness or sleepiness, dullness, weakness, difficulty paying attention, fatigue, etc., which often affects one’s daily life, work, study, and health.

During the session I will ask the patient about his sleep history, such as whether the patient has difficulty sleeping, wakes frequently, has difficulty falling back to sleep once they have woken up, or, in severe cases, is unable to sleep all night. Alternatively, the patient may be asked whether there are other symptoms involved such as headache, dizziness, heart palpitations, forgetfulness, fatigue, lack of energy, nervousness, frequent dreams, as well as anxiety and depression.

The treatment duration depends on the severity and the stage of the insomnia. For example, chronic insomnia and acute insomnia may require over 10 treatments over a couple months. While for temporary insomnia, fewer than 5 sessions may be needed.

Recommendations and Prevention
* Avoid screens before bedtime
* Avoid sleeping during the day
* Avoid heavy meals or food that is difficult to digest before bed
* When insomnia occurs priorities light or calming activity (reading, meditation…)
* Avoid drinking coffee, caffeinated tea, or soft drinks
* Exercise regularly, but do not exercise shortly before bedtime

*If a patient is taking sleeping pills on a regular basis, they should not stop suddenly but should consult a doctor in order to gradually reduce the dosage
