00s digital culture research was crazy and drunk on it's own cool-aid. The Interactive Institute and SICS projects I was on were at least this bonkers and probably more. Not a lot of M**h tho.
Hell I miss a time when we were excited by a future gamified cyberpunk society rather than terrified of living in it. Miss the days of hypersigils, toxic memes, TINAG, reality hacking and research cults.
Attempting to trick Gotland university into believing that the school was haunted using students assigments, reality- game design and not breaking character even when in police and school board interrogations was not the weirdest thing I did...
Wish we would have done more.
The importance of understanding how idea- clusters (then called memes) spread in "cyberspace" and why they feel more real than reality will soon be a fundamental survival skill.
