World Federation Against Drugs, WFAD

World Federation Against Drugs, WFAD WFAD aims for a drug free world. The World Federation Against Drugs (WFAD) is a multilateral community of non-governmental organisations and individuals.

WFAD is democratically organised with an International Board consisting of two representatives from each world region: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and Oceania as well as an International President. Founded in 2009, the aim of WFAD is to work for a drug-free world. The members of the WFAD share a common concern that illicit drug use is undercutting traditional values and threatening the existence of stable families, communities, and government institutions throughout the world. The work of the WFAD is built on the principles of universal fellowship and basic human and democratic rights. We believe that working for a drug-free World will promote peace and human development and dignity, democracy, tolerance, equality, freedom and justice. WFAD aims to strengthen prevention, increase access to treatment, and promote recovery!

On 27 and 28 October 2025, Slum Child Foundation hosted the cross-regional Afri-Asia Drug Prevention Summit. The Summit was a landmark initiative designed to foster collaboration between African and Asian stakeholders in the prevention of substance abuse among children, youth, and vulnerable communities. Recognising the shared challenges of drug abuse across continents, the Summit provided a multi-sector platform for governments, UN agencies, international and local NGOs, faith-based organisations, and community representatives to share knowledge, develop evidence-based strategies, and strengthen cross-continental partnerships.

“From voices to action.” - Learn more about the Global Youth Declaration

The Global Youth Declaration is more than words; it’s a roadmap for a healthier, more equitable future.

The youth have spoken clearly. Now it’s time for all of us: policymakers, practitioners, and communities - to listen, partner, and act.

Across the world, many youth-led and youth-engaged initiatives are already making a real difference. We want to highlight and learn from them.

📣 If you are a youth-led organisation or an organisation working with young people, we invite you to share your prevention activities and good practices with us.
Send your work to info@wfad.se for a chance to be featured in our global showcase this February.
(Stay tuned — more information coming soon!)

Because when youth lead change, prevention becomes stronger, fairer, and more effective.

“Strong communities, strong futures.”

Youth highlight that prevention starts with the environments they grow up in, communities that care, protect, and believe in them.

They call for community-based programmes, understanding, support, comprehensive policies, destigmatisation, and alternatives to incarceration.
Together, we can build supportive systems that protect youth rights and health.

“Empower us — and we’ll empower others.”

On World Day of Disabilities, we reaffirm that empowerment must include all young people.

Economic independence and leadership aren’t extras; they’re prevention tools.
Young people worldwide are calling for job opportunities, mentorship, and youth-led initiatives that build resilience and strengthen communities.

Today reminds us that an inclusive society is a safer society.
For prevention to work, every young person, including youth with disabilities, must have equal access to opportunities, support, and the chance to lead.

When young people thrive, all young people thrive.
When empowerment is inclusive, prevention is stronger.

“Help should be there when we need it.”

Youth demand services that are accessible, affordable, and designed with their input.
That means shorter waiting times, 24-hour support, and a focus on recovery that includes family and community.

Prevention doesn’t end when treatment begins; it’s part of healing, too.

“Prevention works when it understands us, all of us.”

Young people call for prevention and treatment that understands their realities, from mental health struggles to economic challenges and social pressures.
Gender matters in how we design, deliver, and support prevention efforts.

When prevention is inclusive, it’s effective.

On November 20, TSAFI, an initiative of WFAD and DFAF, officially launched the “From Myth to Action” toolkit. Designed for professionals working with individuals, families, communities, and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) programmes, this resource offers practical, trauma-informed strategies to support prevention, healing, and recovery.

🌍 During the launch webinar, experts who piloted the toolkit shared their experiences. Their feedback was unanimously positive, noting how the toolkit helped:

✔️ Open conversations about trauma
✔️ Challenge misconceptions and reduce stigma
✔️ Build safer, more supportive environments
✔️ Empower both professionals and communities

💬 They concluded that “From Myth to Action” offers a hopeful pathway forward, one that helps us rethink, rewire, and build meaningful change in how trauma and addiction are understood and addressed.
