Growing roots doesn’t happen overnight.

It happens in small moments. A conversation with another parent. A morning routine that finally feels like yours. A place where people know your name.

Alva House is being built for families who are still finding their footing here — and for those who already did, and want to help others do the same.

If that’s you, come find us.

Starting childcare in Sweden can feel confusing at first.
There are systems, queues, and processes that are not always clearly explained.
Here is a simple breakdown to help you get started.
You might want to save this for later 🤍

Finding your people doesn’t happen overnight.
It takes time, small interactions, and moments that slowly start to feel familiar.
But when it happens, everything begins to feel a little lighter 🤍

Learning a new language takes time. Understanding how things work takes time.
But building a support system from scratch is something else.
For many parents, this becomes the hardest part of starting over.

Living in Sweden as a parent can feel confusing at first.
There are systems in place to support families, but understanding how everything works takes time.
It’s okay to learn gradually. You don’t have to figure everything out at once 🤍

Some experiences are hard to explain, especially when you’re raising a child in a new country.

There’s a lot happening at the same time. Learning how things work, adapting, and trying to be present as a parent. Sometimes it can feel more isolating than expected.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone 🤍

No one really prepares you for what it’s like to raise a child in a different country.

Beyond the big changes, it’s often the everyday moments that feel the hardest, especially when your usual support system isn’t around.

Some days can feel heavier than they should.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone 🤍

We came across this number recently and it stopped us.

Not because it was surprising — honestly, it wasn't. But because we knew exactly what it looked and felt like behind that statistic. The CVs sent into the void. The LinkedIn profile updated for the fifth time, still not landing anywhere. The interviews that never came. The slow, quiet wondering if the career you worked hard to build just… stayed behind when you got in that plane.

And then, on top of that, being the one holding everything together at home while your partner goes to work every day.

If any part of this sounds familiar — we see you. And we're building something very much with you in mind. 🤍

Honest question for the parents here

When was the last time you had a few hours completely to yourself — no kids, no errands, no mental to-do list running in the background, no guilt about sitting still?

We're asking because the answer matters more than it might seem. And because what you tell us is helping shape something we're really excited to share with you soon. 🌷

We came across this statistic recently and it stayed with us.

Because loneliness as an immigrant parent isn't just about missing the people you left behind — though that's real too. It's the specific kind that comes from being surrounded by a city that's moving fast and not quite knowing where you fit in it yet.

It's having nobody to call when the kids are sick and you can't make it to work. It's sitting in a meeting at school and catching only half of what's being said. It's the group chats you're not in because you arrived after everyone else had already found each other.

This is part of why Alva House exists. More on that soon.

We have a genuine question for anyone who moved to Sweden as a parent — and we're asking because the answer actually matters to us.

What was the hardest part of your first year here?

⚪️ Finding a job
⚪️ Learning Swedish
⚪️ Making real friends
⚪️ Just finding time to breathe

There are no right answers. And if none of these quite fit, tell us in the comments — we want to hear the real version, not the tidy one.

Moving to a new country has a way of making you question everything you thought you knew about yourself.

Your job title doesn't translate the same way. Your social circle is starting from scratch. And somewhere between the paperwork and the school
runs and figuring out how everything works here, you might have lost track of who you actually are outside of all that.

That person is still there. Just waiting for the right conditions to show up again.

If this resonates — save it, share it, or just let it sit for a bit.
