Colorcrutch

Colorcrutch Colorcrutch Fernie, Canada Mid-February 2013. It is the second day of a roadtrip in British Columbia. Conditions are pretty sh*tty.

The 10 days when I will finally experience the dreamlike light powder snow of the Canadian mountains. Unfortunately it hasn’t snowed properly since Christmas. Today we are skiing with some guys from the Fernie skipatrol on their day off and we have actually found some nice untouched snow among the pine trees. It is approaching the end of the day and my telemark skies are slowly starting to feel like an extension of my body. I am standing on the verge to what might be the days’ last run and then I drop in. I land, feel my knee twisting and within me, hear the sound of something cracking. The second I stop I also know that this was the last run of the season. Two months later I am leaving Artrokliniken at Sophiahemmet in Stockholm with a new ACL and a miniscus that has been pulled back where it belongs. Despite the surgery some hours earlier I feel great; the road back has begun! I grab my hot pink crutches and limp out to the waiting cab that will take me back home to the archipelago. The idea of painting my crutches came from a dear friend who once had painted hers turquise. Hot pink is one of my happy colors, so naturally I wanted the crutches that I was to jump around on for six weeks to be that color. Some weeks later I did my comeback in the Stockholm city centre. By this time Anders had added some cool sporty stickers to my crutches. Walking the streets of the city was a whole new experience. People smiled at me and complete strangers even started speaking to me in the street saying things like ”Love your crutches!” and ”If I hurt myself I would also like a pair of crutches like yours!”. After Anders and I had been to several sporting events and the same thing happened over and over we realized that maybe we’ve got something here. We decided to make a contribution to the world of medical devices and making the healing process more joyful, playful and fun. Colorcrutch was born.
