This is a useful workshop to guide all new mums and mums of newborns on how we can take care of the most important (and often most neglected) parts of the body post-birth: our minds and our hearts!

Did you know that up to 80% of all mothers experience Baby Blues?

Although it is not a medical condition like postnatal depression, it can still be confusing to understand and manage those emotional fluctuations. You have so much to do already, with a new baby needing care round-the-clock. Reduce your stress by learning how to care for your emotions and baby's emotions. Learn now before baby arrives, because you won't have the time for it after!

Many postnatal clients ask, "Why didn't anyone help us prepare for the emotional aspects of becoming a parent?" Unfortunately, there is still a lot of denial and stigma around vulnerable emotions. Nobody wants to be seen as "not able to cope". So most people think they won't need it, until they find themselves struggling.

Let's break this falsehood that we will naturally know how to cope. It is a skill like any other, that you may not have learned in earlier stages of life. With the right support, parenting can be a very fulfilling journey of growth for you and your family.

Responding to questions from this month’s Ask Me Anything! I received a question about capping naps and it’s a good one, because so many people question the need to wake a sleeping baby! (Don’t wake her up! So poor thing!!) But just like how we doze off from exhaustion at 9pm and the regret it at 2am when we’re still tossing and turning in bed, naps affect night sleep for our babies too! This in turn affects overall sleep quality and our physical, mental and emotional well-being!

As seen in the pie charts on sleep by minutes above, sleep needs visibly shift from 4-6 months. We’re talking longer wake times and shorter morning and afternoon naps. No surprises guessing which nap stays the same until baby hits 3 years old! It’s my favourite nap of the day - the siesta nap! 😴

Kat signed up for our Mighty Dreamers Package with 2 weeks of WhatsApp support as she wanted a gentle method to teach baby K to sleep independently. We worked together to guide baby K to drop one sleep prop at a time, and she was eventually able to sleep longer for her naps (we even had to wake her up at times!) and for longer stretches at night - all by herself! So glad to have helped both Mummy and baby have better sleep! 😴

😴 What are the signs that it is time for baby to drop a nap? 😴

Many clients approach me with cases of independent sleepers who have seemingly “regressed” after a period of sleeping well. Most of the time, these issues arise from nap transitions. At times, the baby has dropped a nap too soon. Conversely, not dropping a nap when baby should be sleeping less in the daytime is also likely to disrupt sleep.

The milestone ages when nap transitions take place are 7 months, 13-18 months and 3-4 years old when the afternoon nap, morning nap and midday nap are dropped respectively. I’ve listed 🌟 4 signs 🌟 to look out for above.

🙋🏻‍♀️ So how should you go about dropping a nap?

1. If baby is napping as per normal, shorten the duration of the nap every 3 days by waking baby up earlier or settling her later.

2. If baby keeps fighting the nap, drop it completely and settle her earlier for bedtime.

Still encountering issues with your baby’s sleep-wake schedule? Book a 30-min consult with me now!

I’ve been really busy this season but one thing that I want to start doing is to pause, celebrate successes and to cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving. Any success, whether it be a quantum leap or a baby step in the right direction, should be cherished. I am thankful for the opportunity to journey with little Luke here and his parents. It has been a wonderful partnership and I’m glad to see that Luke is much more well-rested now! 🌟

Our next question from one of our IG followers is HOW DO WE START? Well, it’s hard to pinpoint one thing that you have to do. Rather, a couple of things need to work in tandem for change to be effective! I’d propose looking at 3 parts to a first step! Think of it as 3 big questions:

💡 Is my baby’s sleep environment conducive?
😴 At what time of the day is baby sleeping? Does baby seem overtired or undertired? There is a fine line between both cases and it often manifests in the same way - a cranky baby taking a long time to settle!
😃 Is baby being placed in the cot AWAKE? Take note that drowsy but awake as a condition for sleep coaching is mostly ineffective! A distractible 3-4 month old will most definitely wake up immediately when lowered. Either they are semi asleep, fully asleep or fully awake!

If you feel that it’s really challenging to implement these steps in a way that is best for baby, consider engaging a sleep consultant as a next step! DM us for a FOC 15-min consult now! Bring rest to your nest today! 🦔

Responding to the first question that came in on when and how to start coaching your baby to self-settle! 👶🏻✨💕

Every baby is different, so it’s important to discern when your baby is ready to learn. This is certainly not a competition of who gets it done first as we need to be aware of baby’s changing needs and preferences. DM me for a customised sleep plan if you’d like me to assess your situation, make specific recommendations that are contextualised to fit your preferences and baby’s personality, as well as journey with you throughout the process of sleep coaching!
