Warning: difficult to hear.
My daughter spoke about intergenerational trauma,
and what made things feel better over time.
I couldn’t change through insight alone. I already knew it was my childhood experience I was mimicking(?)…and Everytime I hurt my child the same way, I’d collapse in guilt and self blame. Why couldn’t I have more self control???
Intergenerational trauma is often encoded in the subconscious, which means many of the reactions that make us sound or act like our parents are automatic, knee-jerk responses happening before conscious choice.
Children care less about your perfection,
and more about your ability to change.
