Do we often spend a lot of time browsing or watching different kinds of shows, sitting all day, glued to the screen?
This usually stems from a deep-rooted emptiness in one's heart. We try to fill that deep longing from the core of our hearts by sitting down all day and watching whatever is on that box, thinking that it could deliver the happiness we are longing for.
This hole cannot be filled up by another material activity. We are all spiritual beings, and we can only be truly happy and satisfied when we are experiencing something eternal.
We should try to take shelter in the Holy Names and focus our minds, hearts, and entire being on the Absolute Truth.

We often fail to recognize the person who truly loves us unconditionally.
Our attachments are often connected with the different names and forms of this world. They became our world, thinking they would give us lasting happiness. But we usually end up frustrated and hurt.
Everything in this material dimension is bound to end; everything will be left behind. The only person who is our constant companion wherever we go is the most neglected of all.
He always takes a back seat, but still, His love is unwavering. His uncompassing love is beyond our comprehension, even if we are the most sinful of all. He is just waiting for us to turn our heads and give Him our hearts...He often goes by the name GOD.

A bee is always after the sweet nectar and a fly hangs around filthy places like the rubbish bin.
Whatever we say, the actions or activities we perform, or the food we eat determine whether we are like a bee or a fly.
A person engrossed in gossip, criticisms, eating putrid foods, taking intoxicants, and engaging one's senses in mundane activities is like a fly which is after temporary sense pleasures that are not beneficial to our eternal nature.
On the other hand, a person who engages in activities that are relevant to one's essence as a spiritual being, part and parcel of the Lord is likened to a bee who is always after the sweet nectar.
We can then distinguish if we are like a bee or a fly.
The choice is in our hands...

Materialism is not just about being attached to the material things of this world, one is considered a materialist when one identifies with the body as the "self' " made of material energy.

We are in essence spirit, eternal, and are only encaged in a temporary body for a certain period. When the duration is over, we leave it and take on a new one.

The choice is ours if we want to end this cycle of acquiring and giving up material bodies or be reinstated in our original position.

A relationship based on getting something in return is not based on love but is rooted in lust.

Love is intrinsic in each one of us. We all want to love and be loved. But we must know the difference between love and lust and whom to place our love. If we place our love in this world's temporary names and forms, we end up frustrated and suffering.

If we are motivated to act or relate to someone with the hope of getting some compensation or satisfaction in exchange for what we are giving then that is rooted in lust, a business relationship. Love is selfless, it is pleasing the person we love...

The advent of a calendar year marks a new beginning, and with it comes hope to turn over a new leaf. It is a time to reflect on the things we have done the previous year and to try to improve and better “ourselves.”

Each one of us has a goal and we work hard to achieve it. Some were able to attain what they have set and are now aiming towards a new one, while others are struggling to go for it.

Different people aim to improve in contrasting areas.
One may want to enhance their physical appearance by doing different procedures- going to the gym, sauna, aesthetic doctors or some would even go to great lengths to go for a reconstructive surgery.

Others would want to improve their mental expertise- taking further studies in the field they are undertaking, honing their craft, or even acquiring new skills.

Some would try to engage in acquiring wealth and prosperity.
Others who are more contemplative would seek to improve their character for the better. How they behave or act. How they deal with others. For those types of people, character plays a much more intrinsic value.

But for someone who really seeks wisdom, this New Year is the time to really introspect and seek to find answers to the questions- Who am I? What is the purpose of my existence? What is the actual goal of life.?

If we analyze deeper, even if we can have all the things we want, it will only bring about temporary satisfaction. No amount of material things will be able to satisfy us, even if we can consume the whole world.

If we are not connected to that actual source of happiness, then the pleasure we would try to seek would be in the wrong direction. One would still feel empty inside.

If we can understand our real essence, that we are the living being, the life force, the soul, temporarily having a human experience, this could make a profound difference in our lives.

It is not that we are our material bodies and we possess a soul but rather we are the soul temporarily residing in our bodies. We are all parts and parcels of the Supreme Being and we can only be truly happy and satisfied when we are serving the Supreme Person.

Everything here in the world is temporary and is all destined to come to an end, so we have to really introspect, for whatever actions we perform whether pious or sinful will certainly create an indelible ink on the outcome of what our lives would be. The choice is ours to make…

Let us not take out Christ from Christmas. Instead of greeting Merry X'mas, please greet Merry Christmas! Christ is always a part of the picture, do not cross him out.
This season is meant for him. He is the reason why we have a yearly celebration, to commemorate his appearance in this world.
We should glorify him as he is a pure lover of the Lord. The son of God who taught us the real meaning of Christmas.
Jesus is the embodiment of love. He taught us to love GOD WITH OUR BODY, MIND AND ENTIRE BEING.

I often hear the phrase "We should be a God-fearing person," and I was raised by my elders in this way.

But I used to wonder why we have to fear God. I am very fortunate to have the guidance of a bonafide spiritual teacher who taught that God is the most lovable and attractive person and possesses six opulences in full—beauty, fame, fortune, knowledge, strength, and renunciation. ( No one can claim to possess these qualities in full.)

If we consider God our father, would the father want his children to fear him?

The father would want to have loving exchanges with his children. He wants his children to freely come to him, sit on his lap, hug and kiss him, and laugh with him.

In return for the love he gets from the Father, the child would want to do something pleasing to him.

Our only fear is to be engaged in some activity that could displease OUR FATHER. A child wants to satisfy his father. Similarly, we want to be pleasing to the Supreme Person, our Father, and our beloved.

We are, in essence, spiritual, and the material world is not our real home. Our place is in the non-material dimension, without birth, disease, old age, or death.
One does not want to get old and ultimately undergo death, as we are eternal, so, naturally, we want to exist forever, but the body that we have is all subject to destruction; it is non-permanent.
Life is happy when God is present, but without God, it is an empty life. We all try to make adjustments in our lives, thinking that material possessions will make us happy, but in the end, we get frustrated and live a miserable life. Without understanding our eternal nature and relationship with God, everything will be in darkness, and all our material endeavors will be futile.

We are all under the illusion or false ego that the family we have is to whom we belong. It is due to identifying the body as the self and everything connected with our bodies is considered as our extended self.
When one misidentifies the body as who we are, our concern is to do what is pleasing to our bodies and extended selves. But when one understands that he is a spiritual being, the soul who is temporarily inhabiting a material body then one's spiritual journey begins.
When a person is still in the platform of bodily identification and is attached to family members then one’s spiritual path has not begun as he is after the temporary relationships under the different names and forms of this world.
Having a family is not a hindrance to spiritual life if one understands that everyone in his family is a spiritual spark, a child of the Supreme Person, and is placed temporarily under his care, for him not to exploit but to nurture and help so that each one will be able to achieve the goal of human existence.

Most people want respect as it is often rooted in security. One feels a sense of assurance when one is given high regard. And when one is in an elevated position, there is the tendency to fault-find another for he feels his position is higher than anybody else.
But a true follower of God is not after respect as he knows he is the most fallen and is therefore not expecting any respect from anyone. He feels he is at the lowest point, like the straw in the street.
And nothing can be lower than the straw in the street for it is situated at the rock-bottom point, it gets trampled by anybody passing by, full of dirt, and dust.
This is the most secure position as the person does not have to pretend he is great. Even if he is the most sinful creature, the lowest of the low, he knows that God loves him unconditionally.

Relationships in this world are often tainted and mostly filled with expectations. One does something for someone with the hope of getting something in return, everything must be compensated. For example, when one performs work, he expects pay from his boss.

In the same way one approaches God, one expects something from Him. One often prays for something material. God becomes our order-supplier, our doctor- Please God give me this, give me that, or Dear God please heal me or heal this person dear to me.

These things are not bad but this does not help one get closer to God or establish his relationship with Him. Hardly one prays to ask God to let him get close to Him, love and serve Him.
Another type of person who approaches God is the less materialistic asking the Lord to give or award him liberation. That person wants to be able to inherit the kingdom of God because they do not want to suffer because they know that they cannot find real happiness in this world.

These types of people are both after their own self-interest. They only care about themselves and their extended selves (family, relatives, friends).

A true lover of God aims only to please the Lord, he Is not after for some material gain or to be even liberated and reside in the kingdom of the Supreme Person. His only desire is to be engaged in His loving service, no matter where he may be or whatever condition he may be in.
