There is a distinct difference between people who are successful and those who’re not.

Successful people turn everything into motivation to become better.

People who’re not successful in life turn everything in life into complaints. They make themself into victims. They criticise and whine and never get much further than their small ‘pathetic’ lives.

If someone gives you encouragement, love and praise, use that to get better so that you do them proud, you don’t let them down. You affirm that they’re right to praise you.

If someone betrays and hurt you, turn that into motivation to become stronger smarter more resilient. Don’t become like them.

If someone disrespects or insults you, turn that into motivation to grow and improve to become more outstanding, show them you’re at a much higher level.

Because at the end of day, it doesn’t really matter how the world treats you.

What matters is what you do with it.

The biggest superpower you can have in life, is the ability to turn everything into motivation for yourself to get better and stronger. This is true power.

Self reflection after coaching hundreds of women and training coaches from scratch over the last 15 years.

If you are a coach or teacher and your work involves working with people and leading them towards a better state (be it health, finance, spirituality, relationships etc) you must have a self care routine to help yourself restore energy, passion and commitment.

If not, you’ll burn out 🪫 and give up very soon.

Oh of course it won’t matter if you don’t care, but I assume you do. Every coach I came across chose to be one because they want to serve and help others.

So I know you care.

However, if you want to help people, then you have to work with humans.

And it’s inevitable to come across negativity. This is a natural part of life and human interaction, we can’t avoid it.

In fact, we ourselves might have at some point earlier in life given our coaches a hard time before. 😂

In our work at Slim Sassy Strong, my team and I give our heart and soul for every client we work with.

Thankfully, most of them are appreciative, they do the work (of course when they do the work they get results) and they generously give us their testimonials.

The clients who follow our lead, eventually transform darkness to light, and they in turn became a light 💡 for others.

However at the beginning part of every journey, before the body and mind transform, there might be some resistance.

Part of being an effective coach is to be able to turn negativity to positivity and transform resistance into results.

Coaches are humans too, when we face too much negativity for too long, our energy gets drained and we feel demotivated.

Fortunately, there is a solution for this. I call this Soul Work and Soul Care.

Soul Work:

This is where you work on yourself to expand YOU.

You improve your physical state, increase your stamina and energetic tolerance to make your container bigger.

Think of a small boat ⛴️ rocking against strong winds and currents, versus a sturdy tanker that sails unfazed through storms.

You want to be the sturdy tanker. Not the small frail boat.

Expanding your container spans from physical to emotional, mental and spiritual.

In terms of physical body & health, what are you eating, doing, or not doing to make sure you operate at your best everyday?

In terms of emotional & mental, are you actively working on healing past trauma? Everyone has trauma, just a question of more or less.

You can’t fully become free of your past trauma BUT you can be bigger than it, and you can convert your trauma into wisdom and depth that can impact your students.

In terms of spiritual expansion, how often do you revisit your purpose and goals?

How often do you reflect on your actions to see if they are aligned with your purpose and goals?

Do you have a daily self study, 📖 journalling and meditation practice?

Do you have a system for learning and growth?

How do you make sure you develop more understanding of yourself, knowledge in your work, emotional health and mental resilience every day?

Aim for 1% expansion every day, you’ll achieve massive growth in 1 year with just 1% everyday.

Soul Care:

This is where we tap on something greater than us to help us.

Whatever your faith or religion might be, or maybe you just believe in divine universal power, you’ll need to rely on a source greater than you.

We are all here on this earth to serve and make life better for others. It’s not permanent.

It’s important to set up a regular prayer & meditation routine so that you can connect to Source.

Especially when you feel drained and tired, look to your source and ask for help (God, Holy Spirit, Divine Source or whichever faith you believe choose to believe in).

Plug in and charge your spiritual battery as often as you can.

You are a messenger and vehicle to facilitate change, do your utmost best to serve.

And then, detach from the outcome. This is necessary, so that you protect your energetic boundaries and be able to serve the next student.

Like the famous saying go: Do your best. Leave the rest to God.

Are you noticing that women in Singapore are living longer BUT also 😣 𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿?

Many of them start losing the ability to walk normally in their 50s, some even as early as their 40s. 😬

If we suffer from chronic pain and problems in walking, we might be told by some ‘experts’ that ageing and degeneration ⛔ are incurable.

While it might be true that we can’t reverse chronological ageing, however, we can significantly 💁 improve the quality of our lives by living right.

With the right lifestyle modifications, we can restore our body, energy and maximise mobility, age 💃 elegantly doing our favourite activities, and 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 to our family.

This is exactly what we at ✨Slim Sassy Strong have been doing over the last 15 yrs.

As I mature, I find lesser fulfilment from physical possessions, and more value from non tangible things.

Sharing the wisdom from this article - 5 things to buy to be happy:

1. Buy experiences

2. Buy health and well-being

3. Buy time saving devices

4. Buy hobbies and creative outlets

5. Buy education and personal growth

I would add on a #6 - Buy happiness for people who matters to you. When we bring happiness to someone else other than ourselves, we can truly experience joy! 😃

20 years ago I made a huge switch from corporate and dived into learning nutrition, holistic healing, anti ageing lifestyle, movement, and mental wellness.

With this decision I’d achieved point #1, #2 and #3. 😉

I was sick and going around specialists and doctors but nothing seemed to work.

And the trauma from my childhood would continue to make me a pain in the *** to be around… I’ll probably die alone and miserable 😭

Thank goodness I made a huge change, because if not, I’d continue to be sick and depressed.

Even though the journey was terribly difficult in the beginning (people around me thought I was insane to carry smoothies and juices on the go and I felt really lonely) on hindsight I’m grateful that it’s the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.

After the first 10 years I started developing content and learning models to train teachers, it took time… but it was well worth it.

Now I have a tribe of women doing this together with me!

Collectively we have avoided tens of surgeries, lost a ton of weight, become more attractive and some of our husbands even start to feel a tad insecure 😂 because we not only looked younger and more beautiful but we radiate confidence wherever we go 💃

As coaches, the fulfilment we get from leading and facilitating transformation is indescribable.

To see our ladies come in limping, overweight and feeling down… and months later after our ✨Slim Sassy Strong method, they are dancing and planning holidays… there are no words to describe the feeling!

And not to mention, as coaches were trained to set up routines to help ourselves stay free from pain and far away from diseases, for the rest of our lives…

Indeed, we become masters of what we train ourselves to teach…

“You’re almost 50 but your metabolic age is only 28. Wow madam you’re in fantastic shape!” The consultant said to me after we did our body composition check 😀

Sure feels good to know that I’m headed in the right direction of ageing gracefully. 🙌

With muscle mass of 43% and body fat of 22%, I’m at very low risk for cardiovascular or degenerative diseases, and low chances of experiencing joint pain. 👏

The consultant told me to maintain my condition, but actually my 2024 goal is to become even stronger, more supple and look even more radiant 🥰

Why not get better, build more muscle reserves and reverse my metabolic age even more so that I can do all the things I love in my future decades. I’ve got a long list of things to experience haha! ✈️

And besides, I know exactly how to do it. 💪 😉

1 year ago, she couldn’t sleep because of knee, hip and back pain, had to depend on 💊painkillers, had trouble going to work 🥲, and given up hope of traveling again. She also went around trying out many solutions but nothing worked.

Then she met us and embarked on the ✨Slim Sassy Strong program. 9 months later today, she is no longer in pain 👏, no longer dependent on painkillers 💪, she’s able to perform her work well and enjoy her holiday ✈️ travels again!

The best part is - she’s now part of our coaching team and teaching 🌱Eat To Thrive modules to our new ladies, empowering them with the same knowledge that helped her go from being imprisoned by pain to now being free from drugs, surgery and go back to being active again! 💃

My first thoughts when I heard the news were - ‘She’s beautiful, talented, successful and has a billionaire husband… Why would someone like her possibly have depression and even commit suicide?’ 😔

Am feeling saddened with this news because I used to sing 🎤 her famous love ballads at ktv. My fav songs were ‘Before I fall in love’ and ’被爱的女人’.

While I slowly digest the news these past few days, am reminding myself that no human being is invincible.

Setting a note 📝 to myself to constantly reflect and be grateful.

💜Start every day by reflecting on all the things that are working which I am grateful for.

💜During breakdowns or difficult times, keep searching for something good to focus on.

💜Minimise contact with negative people and things that drag you down, it’s simply not worth it.

💜Keep dreaming and taking action towards your dreams whatever that may be. The moment we stop dreaming, start dying.

Many women make the mistake of eating low fat and high sugar diet. This leads to blood sugar spikes, low energy, high inflammation and weight gain.

To stay slim and have energy, you need to eat fats, but not all fats are equal. This is the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks that I came across another woman who’d given up her life and career to take care of the kids, have no income and no access to use the money in the family bank account and are treated as 3rd or 4th class citizens at home.

Domestic violence is defined as abuse that spans over physical, sexual, emotional, economic and psychological areas.

If you had given up your job and time to be a stay-home mum, and your husband is making you feel that you have ‘no right’ to use his money or putting your needs below everything else, it is a form of domestic violence in my opinion.

It doesn’t require physical abuse or open threats. In fact I feel these are the progressions of prolonged financial and emotional abuse if you continue to allow it.

My dear woman, you made a sacrifice and conscious choice to stay home and devote to your children, and with that you have no income. It is only RIGHT that you should have equal access to whatever your husband is making. Your name should be in all your assets and you should never have to ask for ‘permission’ to use money.

I hear and read tragic stories of a woman being forced to be without home and money when the couple divorce. Why? Because the woman sacrificed her career to take care of their children, and she’s become obsolete all these years while the world evolved. Don’t let that happen to you.

In my husband’s words - if a man loves a woman, he will never put her down. He will honor her and her needs, and strive to make her feel that her needs are met.

So here’s a message from my heart to all my female friends. Stand up for yourself. You are brilliant, talented and capable. Don’t allow yourself to become obsolete and if things change in the marriage later down the road, how are you going to fend for yourself? Go out and get a job now, even if it's not yet paying you what you want for now, at least take a first step out now.

It is not okay to be abused or bullied like that. You deserve to be happy, to feel cherished and loved.
