Melasma is a fairly common and also challenging condition to manage. Its multi-factorial causative nature, unpredictable response to therapy and at times recalcitrant / stubbornness - makes it frustrating. Sometimes Melasma is also seen as a mixed picture pigmentation complex - combined with other forms of pigmentation due to ageing and sun exposure, which makes it even harder to treat. But all is not lost. There are multiple treatment modalities that can help you navigate this skin concern. The key is being patient, consistent with treatment schedules, and allowing the condition to play itself out while we attempt to get it to quieten down. Pigmentation and blemishes are one of the most common reasons why patients seek treatment. We understand itā€™s not easy : strict sunscreen usage, avoidance of sun, frequency of treatments, complex diagnosis, hormonal and genetic influences etc.

Some patients tell me they canā€™t avoid the sun because they have to bring their kids out for sports activities. Some share their busy travel schedules for work, which affects their ability to come for regular sessions. Some cannot afford any downtime. Tackling these issues drives me a lot - how do I find a sweet spot for every patient so they can achieve a good outcome. Much of medicine also lies in philosophies and mindfulness; if we put our mind into something, we have a decent chance of achieving good results.
