𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 (𝐀𝐀𝐂)?
It’s a place where seniors can stay active, join exercises, workshops, and social activities like bingo or karaoke — all while staying connected in the community.
At first, my 70-year-old mum wasn’t sure if an AAC was for her. Here’s how I convinced her to join an AAC:
1️⃣ Explain what an AAC is
If your loved ones don’t know what to expect, take the time to walk them through it. It might take a few conversations, and that’s OK!
2️⃣ Understand their concerns
Some seniors worry about how much time it takes or about socialising too much. Listen, reassure them, and show that they can choose activities that suit them.
3️⃣ Start small
Morning exercises are an easy first step — low pressure and perfect for introverts. Once they’re comfortable, they can try workshops, outings, and more.
Tip: They don’t have to join everything at once. The key is to find what makes them happy!
