As part of the lead-up to the Live Well, Leave Well Festival, Justin, who provides Pastoral Care at the Palliative Ward at St. Andrew’s Community Hospital joined a radio talk show with Ms Sim Bee Hia, Executive Director of the Singapore Hospice Council.

They spoke openly about how our communities are beginning to rethink the often difficult subject of death and end-of-life care. They also talk about how palliative care is not just about medical treatment, but about sincere presence and walking alongside families at their own pace.

This conversation is a reminder that while death is inevitable, how we approach it - with openness, dignity, and compassion - can make all the difference for patients and their loved ones.

Earlier this week, we celebrated 15 of our dedicated Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) and Nursing Aides (NAs) who recently completed a 6-month ITE course, with almost all achieving distinctions in all their modules.

Our Chief Nurse, Dr Elaine Ng, shared with the graduates: "You have proven that with determination, an open mind, and the courage to step beyond your comfort zone, the impossible becomes possible."

Our HCAs and NAs are the backbone of patient care, supporting our nurses and therapists in daily care needs and ensuring comfort and dignity for our patients. Congratulations once again to our HCAs and NAs for their commitment and hard work!

Not all heroes wear scrubs; some keep the wheels turning behind the scenes. Meet Kelvin from our Central Supplies Department (CSD).

Together with the Home Care Team, Kelvin and his team helped drive a project that reduced ad-hoc consumables requests by over 80%! Their efforts got them the 2nd Prize Poster Award in the Supply Chain Management category at the Singapore Healthcare Management 2025 conference.

Thank you, Kelvin and the CSD team, for managing our community hospital's supply chain system and helping to improve efficiency through constant innovation and improvement! 🌟

Our palliative care team rolled out something special. A cheerful drinks cart entered the ward, bringing a taste of “happy hour” to our patients’ bedsides.

From juices to mocktails, every sip came with a smile, a chat, and a reminder that joy and connection matter as much as care and comfort.

Moments like these make days a little brighter for our patients, families, and dedicated staff and volunteers, who go the extra mile to lift spirits.

On Thursday, 7 August 2025, SACH staff celebrated SG60 at its Bedok facility, which will open later.

We were reminded that 7 Aug 1965 was the actual date that the documents of separation and independence were signed, and that the same spirit of grit and determination which enabled Singapore to overcome difficult challenges should be the same spirit by which we care for the community in Bedok South. And we thanked all who came from different lands to help build Singapore--- they too are 'Singapore'.

After singing "Home" together, we proudly sang the National Anthem and took the pledge with much meaning and gusto!

"This is my country, this is my flag, this is my future, this is my life;
This is family, these are my friends;
We are Singapore, Singaporeans!"

Majulah Singapura! Happy SG60, Singapore!

Our Nurses' Day celebration on 1 August was truly magical! With laughter, music and dance filling our halls, we stepped into a whimsical world of "Nurses in Wonderland." Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the theme reminds us that curiosity, courage and a heart for learning opens doors to endless possibilities.

At SACH, our nurses go beyond caring for patients, they are constantly growing and always learning.

We were honored to welcome Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, Minister of State for the Ministry of Manpower, and Mr Shawn Huang, Senior Parliamentary Secretary of MOM yesterday, along with esteemed guests from Singapore Ministry of Manpower and the National Trades Union Congress at the St. Andrew’s Migrant Worker Medical Centre located at Penjuru Recreation Centre.

Since its opening, our medical centre has been faithfully serving our migrant workers, providing care for an average of 75,000 patient visits each year.
