When it comes to prostate health, size matters. And bigger is not always better.

A healthy prostate in young adults is typically walnut-sized, weighing 15 to 40 grams with a volume of 20 to 30 cubic centimeters (cc). However, as a man ages, that size grows and sometimes exceeds 80 to 100 cc which may lead to obstruction, discomfort or other medical complications.

Even so, size is not the whole story here. It is possible to have a moderately enlarged prostate with few symptoms or a smaller prostate causing significant blockage.
