Now here is a scary statistic: Singapore has six new people diagnosed with kidney failure every single day.
Type 2 diabetes is a leading cause of kidney failure. And it is easy to see the correlation, since over 400,000 Singaporeans live with this type of diabetes. It is the second-highest proportion of diabetes patients among developed nations, according to the International Diabetes Federation. An estimated 14% of the population aged 18 to 19 years are also diagnosed with prediabetes.
