*Forum: Let Private Hearing Aid Centres Help Fit People with Hearing Aids Faster*

Hearing aid fittings in public hospitals typically face long wait times of up to 10 months due to the high demand for hearing care services.

The Society of Hearing Professionals believes private audiologists could help reduce these long wait times. They are known for their high patient satisfaction, as they allocate sufficient time to help patients use their devices effectively for five years or more. They are calling for better cooperation between the public and private sectors to jointly improve the lives of our senior population through better hearing.

At our eagerly anticipated AGM, it’s heartwarming to welcome new faces to our Society.
Ronald, our President, opened the event by recounting the history and journey of our Society's formation—a moment filled with pride as we witness our community grow bigger and stronger.

Guided by the motto "_We are here to serve and not to be served_," we all renewed our pledged to this collective mission.

And CONGRATULATIONS to our newly appointed Committee Members! We are truly grateful to have such dedicated individuals shaping the future of our Society.
Here's to more years of continuing learning, goodwill and unity with all members!

The society’s AGM was conducted on 8 June 2023 at Huone Singapore. It was heartening to see members of the industry having dinner together without any barriers of competition. Later at the meeting, everyone pledged to work together to achieve the goals of our society.

1.To promote a higher public hearing care awareness; Educating the community on the usage of hearing instruments and other available solutions to treat hearing related disorders.

2.To promote the highest level of competency among hearing aid professionals to fit hearing instruments.

3.To promote continuing education for members and hearing-health professionals in this field of hearing instruments fitting and hearing instruments technology.

4.To promote greater goodwill and unity among members in the hearing health profession and the community.

5.To work closely with the health ministry and other relevant authority related to this field of hearing aid fitting to serve the community.

We have grown our membership to 43 ordinary (individual) members and 9 Patron (company) members as at today. https://shps.org.sg/members/

Our President presented certificates of memberships to welcome all new members at the AGM.

The society would like to thank Sonova Singapore for sponsoring our AGM this year.

We have changed our name from “HEARING PROFESSIONALS ASSOCIATION (SINGAPORE)” to “SOCIETY OF HEARING PROFESSIONALS (SINGAPORE)” to reorganise our membership structure to support our constitution objectives better. This has been approved by the Registrar of Societies on 16 Feb 2023.

Our constitution membership structure now recognised professional individuals as ordinary members instead of the companies. Each ordinary member has one voting right.

With this change, instead of having 8 ordinary company membership, we now have 38 individuals registered as members at the point of this reporting. We also have 9 Patron members (companies).

We believe this positive change will see the society grow stronger to contribute our efforts toward achieving our objectives.
