Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevate is a self-care method to reduce pain and swelling right after you experience minor soft tissue injury.
However, you should see your healthcare provider if swelling and pain does not subside after 48 hours.
The foot & ankle contains 26 small bones, 33 joints, more than 100 muscles, tendons & ligaments and a large network of blood vessels, nerves, skin and soft tissue.
These components work together to provide you with support, balance and mobility.
This is far from the truth. Surgery is the last resort in most orthopaedic/ foot and ankle conditions. Braces, orthotics, injections and physiotherapy form the mainstay of treatment plans in most patients.
A Foot and Ankle Specialist and a Podiatrist form part of a team of professionals that are involved in diagnosing and treating foot and ankle conditions.
Oftentimes, foot and ankle specialists are involved mainly in diagnosis of the condition and if it involves certain aspects of treatment that relate to footwear modification, insoles, orthotics the podiatrists often comes on board to facilitate this aspect of care.
Navigating care and who to look for the proper consultation can be confusing and intimidating. Do not let that deter you from getting the care and treatment that you may need.
Here are some conditions that a Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Specialist can help with.

Honoured to have been able to present my experience with the all inside arthroscopic ligament repair technique for ankle sprains and ankle instability at the 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association.
It was also a nice catchup, sharing and learning with my fellow foot and ankle surgeons in person after so long ! Thoroughly enjoyable !

Pushing yourself when you’re weightlifting is common among gym goers - but it should be done safely as well.
Here are some common injuries if you’re overexerting yourself.
-Labral tear
Ever felt a painful catching or clicking deep in your shoulder while on the chest press? The cartilage bumper that surrounds your glenoid—the shoulder’s ball-and-socket joint—could be giving way.
-Bicep tendon rupture
This tendon attaches the bicep muscle of the arm to a bone in the forearm, and if you attempt to curl a too-heavy weight or suddenly drop the barbell or dumbbell, you’re risking a tear.
If you’re experiencing any of these pains from your gym workouts, do not hesitate to make an appointment with us.
