Building Connections with Play

Seniors from Orange Valley Active Ageing Centre @ Alkaff Crescent teamed up with students from St Andrew's School - Secondary, Singapore for an engaging pickleball session. First session of the 6-week intergenerational initiative with St. Andrew’s Secondary School.

Centred on active ageing, the session encouraged our seniors to stay mobile and confident through play, while creating a vibrant space for interaction with the students. As rallies went back and forth, so did conversations. Skills were shared, tips exchanged, and stories naturally unfolded across generations.

The court became more than just a place for physical activity, it was a space for mutual learning and connection. While students gained new perspectives and enjoyed the game, our seniors embraced the high energy of the youth, strengthening both physical well-being and social bonds.

It was a truly meaningful start to the program, and we look forward to the many opportunities ahead for movement, connection and shared experiences.

A happy Easter celebration with delicious carrot cupcakes 🥕

Residents at Orange Valley Clementi took on an active role in a recent baking activity, coming together to prepare and decorate their own cupcakes.

From grating carrots, mixing ingredients, pouring batter to decorating cupcakes, the residents made choices and contributed in ways that reflected their abilities and preferences.

The care team planned a baking activity to keep residents involved in this festive celebration. This session provided a meaningful sensory experience through touch, smell, and taste, while supporting coordination and purposeful engagement. Residents were able to enjoy both the process and the shared social interaction.

Activities like these are designed to promote engagement while supporting residents’ overall emotional well-being during festive occasions.

The morning at Orange Valley Simei was filled with the aroma of spices as the residents came together to prepare festive dishes. With guidance from the staff, they took part in simple tasks such as mixing ingredients and arranging food, keeping them actively engaged while stimulating their senses through familiar scents and movements.

In the afternoon, residents gathered to enjoy the meal and games, creating moments of joy, laughter, and connection. Throughout the celebration, the care staff provided attentive support, including assisting residents during mealtime to ensure everyone could dine comfortably and safely. Their patience and dedication helped make the celebration inclusive and homely for all.

A refreshing morning at Orange Valley Marsiling ☀️

Our day began with gentle stretching exercises followed by a light walk, allowing residents to ease into the morning while staying active.

The outing continued with brunch at a nearby hawker centre, where residents enjoyed familiar local favourites. One highlight was Mdm Lee confidently ordering food for the table in fluent Hokkien. Dining out together not only stimulates appetite but also encourages social interaction.

Beyond the physical and social benefits, outings like these provide cognitive stimulation. Being in a different environment, making small choices, and engaging with the community help to keep the mind active and engaged.

💐 Women’s Day Celebration: Creating Their Own Floral Masterpieces 💐

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Orange Valley Nursing Home (Clementi) hosted a flower arranging session for our residents. Each resident had the opportunity to choose her favourite flowers and arrange them into a unique, personalised creation.

The activity encouraged creativity while offering a calm and enjoyable experience. Through the process, residents engaged their fine motor skills and senses, while taking pride in creating something of their own.

The session ended on a warm note, with residents enjoying a tea break and admiring one another’s arrangements. It was a simple yet meaningful celebration, filled with joy, appreciation, and shared moments. We also honour the wonderful women who continue to inspire us every day.

Our sincere appreciation to the care team for their thoughtful effort in sourcing and preparing the flowers, making this experience even more special for our residents.
