Clicks in the knee - benign or bad?
Benign clicks in the knee can be caused by maltracking of the patella, and these are usually not painful. However, if clicks are associated with pain, swelling and sensation of knee getting jammed or locked, then these deserve medical attention. As these "bad" clicks can arise from cartilage ulcers, menicus tears or loose bodies in the knee.

While heat can be good for some cases, a good reminder is for an acute injury, ice is the best treatment.
After an injury, there’s a lot of blood flowing to the injured area, causing the swelling. Ice will reduce that initial swelling as well as naturally numb the area to help diminish the pain.
Using heat could actually cause the area to swell more. When you are injured while playing sports, ice it first. Then seek treatment from your doctor to follow up.

Its never a good idea to play through pain. In fact, playing a sport or exercise should not be painful. If it is, it could mean you are performing the activity incorrectly.
Or it could mean you are actually injured. When your muscles feel sore, fatigued, or cramp up during exercise, you should rest and assess your body. If you are experiencing acute or sharp pain, or if you are feeling unwell, you should stop, rest, and get evaluated by a doctor.

Common runner's injury myth 2:Taping my knee when I am injured means I don't have to see a doctor.
If your knee hurts, and you feel taping helps you to run, consider this:A 2018 study on taping shows that "there is a lack of compelling evidence to support the use of KT to enhance sports performance abilities"(Reneker et al, 2018).
Yet another 2012 study (Williams et al) shows that Kinesio taping or KT can have some limited effect. Some physios also say the elasticity of the tape helps to decompress joints and reduce swelling.
The bottom line is this: If you are in severe pain, taping it frequently or using a knee brace is no substitute for seeing a doctor and determining the source of pain.

Stable and strong joints keep you safe and healthy on your run. Joints overworked by excessive stretching can actually become weaker and less stable. Weaker joints equal a higher risk of injury!
Joint health is crucial to a healthy running routine, so make sure that you follow a light stretching routine and know your limits to avoid overstretching crucial muscles and therefore weakening your joints.
