The CoolSculpting Elite fat reduction device has finally reached the sunny shores our Little Red Dot! I was honoured to be invited once again as a keynote speaker at Allergan Aesthetics’ kickoff event of its latest fat freezing device on 29 April 2023.

During the launch, I shared my clinical experience with the CoolSculpting Elite device that was based on my research which is part of a multi-country study on patient satisfaction, safety, and effectiveness of cryolipolysis. I also talked about my patients’ results from their treatments that was completed during the clinical studies in 2021. We ended the evening with a panel discussion to wrap up the event.

The highly anticipated CoolSculpting Elite machine is finally launched in Bangkok, with much fanfare across the region on 4 April 2023. I was honoured to be one of the keynote speakers to unveil the updated fat freezing device. This non-invasive fat freezing device is Allergan Aesthetics’ latest update to its CoolSculpting machine featuring an improved safety profile, a larger treatment area, and curvier applicators for a more comfortable fit.

I shared my experience and results with CoolSculpting Elite in the clinical studies that we completed in 2021, and also took part in a “Meet The Experts” question-and-answer panel session with two other doctors—key opinion leaders for Allergan Aesthetics from Japan and Thailand. Research has shown that combining cryolipolysis (fat freezing) with an electromagnetic muscle stimulation (EMMS) device like the Tesla Muscle Former will reduce waist circumference more so than when only one treatment modality is used for body contouring. This is in line with what we have always been doing at our Halley clinics, which is to combine synergistic therapies to improve outcome for our patients.

There is a lot of demand for the Fotona 4D Laser and it is not hard to understand why. This no downtime laser targets some of the biggest concerns of patients, which are mainly big pores, saggy skin, and the lines around their mouth – namely the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. The beauty of this laser is that it uses not one, not two, but four dimensions of rejuvenation to tighten the skin from inside out. With that, we literally mean treating the skin from inside the mouth so as to kickstart the tightening process around our jawline and perioral region.
I explained the benefits of this popular laser rejuvenation treatment during an interview with Kuwabara-san. I also answered the questions that people are most concerned with, including frequency of treatment, whether it is painful, and after treatment care. We recently made a decision late 2021 to add the new Fotona PQX Picolaser to the range of lasers that we have at Halley.Medical.Aesthetics. The question I often get is: Why bring in another pico laser when you already have the PicoSure? Aren’t all pico lasers work the same since they have the word “pico” in it?

At long last! A research on fat reduction using cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting) that I was working on with an international team of doctors and surgeons in 2019 is now finally published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. I was the lead doctor for this international research: “High Participant Satisfaction Achieved Using Cryolipolysis for Fat Reduction of the Abdomen and Flanks”, which involved 106 participants across four countries, namely Australia, Canada, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

This report shows that cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting) for fat reduction of the flanks and abdomen was well-tolerated and associated with high levels of satisfaction across multidimensional patient reported outcomes.

Can you imagine a technologically-advanced Formula 1 (F1) racing car in the hands of a normal driver who is not trained to handle the technological wizardry built into the car? The car simply becomes a means of transport that gets him from point A to point B.
As with handling any equipment – in this case the Ulthera device for Ultherapy – a piece of equipment is only effective if you handle it well. A medical device like Ulthera, with its many advanced features will fail to be an advanced device if the user doesn’t know how or chooses not to use the advanced features.

Not too long ago I answered Daily Vanity's questions on the 10 Ultherapy myths which their readers believe in. One question they asked which is also very often asked by patients is the question on pain.
Ultherapy is in fact a very tolerable treatment. I feel that much of the hesitation and worry can be addressed if we are prepared before the treatment and so long as we pay attention to details. I believe that a piece of equipment is only good if you handle it well. A piece of equipment with many advanced features fails to be a piece of advanced equipment if the user is not trained properly or chooses not to use the advanced feature. That is why doctors have to go through extensive training before we are certified to do the Ultherapy “See. Plan. Treat.” or “SPT” treatment protocol, which is the latest protocol for doctors to create a safe, effective, and bespoke treatment for patients.
In my latest video, I explain the philosophy behind the Ultherapy SPT treatment protocol and how it creates a highly customised Ultherapy treatment that is also more comfortable for our patients. But remember: you only get good result with a combination of good equipment and good performance. So, be sure that the clinic you visit has an original Ulthera device with a doctor trained AND certified in the Ultherapy SPT treatment protocol.

Many of us have had plenty of practice learning how to use and present via Zoom and the likes of Zoom during Singapore’s lockdown in 2020, so presenting the first keynote speech—“Translating Science of Juvéderm VYCROSS Technology to Filler Performance”—to a virtual audience of 104 aesthetics doctors from Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines at the “Juvéderm Expert Forum” webinar in May 2021 felt like second nature by now.
Having said that, I still miss the presence of a physical audience.
Dermal filler injection is one of the most popular treatments in not just my clinic , but in many clinics, with many patients requesting for hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. It is therefore not surprising that attendance at the “Juvéderm Expert Forum” webinar was high and I felt that things really couldn’t be more “normal” despite being a virtual event.

Webinars are now considered a “new normal” for a world that is living in a pandemic. In the past, webinars are mostly organised for people located in different corners of the globe where it isn’t cost efficient nor practical to bring everyone to a physical location for a meeting. But Covid-19 ...
