"Down Dog, Warrior One etc are the basic poses that we work though all the time. But recently Yvonne began to emphasise the chest lifting aspect of these poses. Rather than thinking of arching our back and compressing our spine, we extend.

Today, she suggested another thought, to lift our pelvic floor while holding the Down Dog pose.

Suddenly these poses are transformed. More space opened up in our spine. And perhaps a little in our gut, mind, heart.

It struck me that there is more space and more possibilities than we notice in what we already have. (In physics, solid objects that we see have lots of empty spaces in between the atoms and within.) Space is freedom.

Then I thought about the relationships we have. How do we find more space and give them more freedom, rather than seeking to constrain, define, own them more and more. So that we do not start with love and end in fear."

Yvonne is a fantastic yoga teacher. Learning yoga with her has been game-changing for my overall fitness, health and flexibility. For example, I used to find it difficult just to do a simple squat because of ankle and hip tightness. But it’s now a lot easier. She also has great knowledge of different types of yoga and attention to detail on getting the poses right. Thank you Yvonne!

As a teenager, Menka Purswaney developed severe asthma that doctors said was incurable. Yoga helped cure it, however. Now she’s found her calling teaching yoga to children – it helps them cope with the pandemic.

Yvonne is an accomplished yoga practitioner who demonstrates skillfully and explains clearly the intricate muscle activations involved in the yoga poses we attempt. This is very helpful and rare. More importantly, she is nurturing, caring, and exudes the spirit of yoga, which to me is peace, joy, and going with the flow. I love it that I don't have to deal with staff, administration, impersonal spaces, and her fees are very reasonable. I show up at her space, with Yvonne and a few of our fellow practitioners, and we practise, then we give thanks and leave. Because the sessions help with body awareness, I notice where i need to build strength, or flexibility, or where there is stiffness or kinks. This has helped my other exercise routines at the gym and my occasional jogs. After our sessions, I always feel more physically alive and free, restored, and grateful. I recommend Yvonne unreservedly.

"Yoga with Yvonne has been an absolute highlight of my trip to Singapore. Our daily sessions have been a pure joy. They vary from the slower, more meditative Yin type yoga to the more active Ashtanga, or Flow yoga. Yvonne is fluid & flexible in her approach to each session, varying the pace & activity level to exactly what her student needs at any particular time. Her passion, knowledge & expertise of her subject shines through, & the individual nature of her work means that poses are achieved correctly, accurately & most of all safely.
No question is too basic, no yoga knowledge is assumed; I found myself revisiting what I considered elementary, foundational yoga poses, & experiencing them in a whole new way. Yvonne is a gem of a yogi, & I would recommend her to anyone new (or old!) to yoga.
Keep up the great work Yvonne!
