This feeling, often known as imposter syndrome is a common mental health challenge that can hold you back from opportunities whether it’s applying for a new job, pursuing a passion project, or simply speaking up in a meeting. Remember to challenge that inner critic. We hear words like trauma bonding, gaslighting, being triggered and intrusive thoughts thrown around all the time online, but pop psychology often gets these terms wrong. Trauma bonding is not just connecting over shared struggles; it refers to a deep attachment to an abuser that keeps someone stuck in a harmful cycle. Gaslighting is much more than simple lying or disagreement — it is a serious form of manipulation that makes you question your own reality and sanity. Being triggered is not just feeling annoyed or uncomfortable; it describes a sharp, sudden resurgence of symptoms like flashbacks or panic. Intrusive thoughts are not fun or quirky impulses you want to act on, but unwanted, distressing thoughts that go against your true values.

Using these terms lightly can water down real experiences and make it harder for people to seek proper help.
