Delayed cord clamping is such a simple pause, but it can mean a lot for your baby’s first minutes earthside.

When the cord is left to pulse for a little while after birth (instead of being clamped straight away), more of your baby’s own blood volume, iron and oxygen-rich red blood cells can move from the placenta into their body. This can support their transition to breathing on their own and help build up iron stores for the first months of life. Of course, if you or baby need urgent care, your team may need to move faster – safety always comes first.

As a doula supporting parents here in Singapore, I see delayed cord clamping show up again and again as a common, important line in birth preferences. Talking about it ahead of time with your care provider and adding it clearly into your plan makes it much more likely to be honoured when everything is going smoothly.

🧡 If you’re pregnant in Singapore and want support understanding options like delayed cord clamping, building a birth plan, and feeling calmer about hospital routines, I’d love to walk beside you as your doula. Send me a DM or click the link in my bio to book a free clarity call.

CTG can feel scary when you’re strapped to belts, listening to beeps and watching lines move across a screen, but at its core it’s simply a tool to help your team understand how your baby is coping with pregnancy or labour. It records baby’s heartbeat and your contractions together, so they can see patterns over time and decide whether things look reassuring or if baby needs a little extra attention.

You’re still allowed to ask questions, to move as much as the set‑up allows, and to understand why continuous monitoring is being suggested instead of intermittent listening. In situations (like strong inductions, epidurals, VBAC, meconium in the waters, or specific concerns about baby), CTG can give important information – but for many low‑risk labours, short periods of monitoring or handheld Doppler checks may also be appropriate. The key is that you stay part of the conversation and feel like monitoring is happening with you, not just to you.

🧡 If you’re pregnant in Singapore and want to walk into your birth understanding tools like CTG, induction, and pain relief options (instead of hearing about them for the first time in the delivery room),

I’d love to support you as your doula. Send me a DM with the word “CTG” or click the link in my bio to book a free clarity call.

Sliding into warm water in labour can feel like someone turned the volume down on everything else.

Hydrotherapy simply means using warm water – in a bath, birth pool, or long shower – to help your body cope with contractions. It can soften tight muscles, ease the weight of your bump, and give you more freedom to move and follow your instincts. As a doula, I’ve seen water help women rest in early labour, ride the intensity of active and transition labour, and even calm those frustrating stop‑start prodromal waves.

Water isn’t magic and it doesn’t “fix” labour, but it can support your nervous system to shift from fear into more safety and ease. That matters, because when you feel safer, your hormones flow better and labour often feels more manageable.

Access to tubs, pools, or even just private showers will depend on your birth place, so it’s worth asking what’s available where you plan to give birth and including it in your birth preferences.

🧡 If you’re pregnant in Singapore and want support exploring comfort options like hydrotherapy plus a calm, continuous presence on your birth team – send me a DM with the word “WATER” or click the link in my bio to book a free clarity call.

Save this post for your birth prep, and share it with your birth partner so they know how to support you if you choose to use water as tool in your labour.

Today’s affirmation: Every contraction brings me closer to meeting my baby. I am ready.”
Labour can feel very different when someone is there, reminding you, “This wave is bringing your baby closer.” If you’d like that kind of grounded support in the birth room, I’d be honoured to walk with you.

If you need to hear this, this small reminder is for you: vomiting in labour does not mean you’re doing anything wrong.

Nausea and even throwing up are really common in active labour and especially in transition, when hormones are intense and your body is working incredibly hard. Digestion slows right down, blood flow is being redirected to your uterus, and your nervous system is on high alert so it makes sense that your stomach sometimes joins the party. It’s uncomfortable and messy, yes, but for many women it’s simply one of the ways the body moves through big waves of labour.

You don’t have to apologise for it, feel embarrassed, or worry that your team is judging you. Doulas, and nurses see this all the time and are far more focused on your safety and progress than on a bit of vomit in a bowl. You are allowed to ask for a pause, a cool cloth, a mouth rinse, or anti‑nausea support if it’s really overwhelming.

🧡 If you’re pregnant in Singapore and want to understand more of these “no one told me” parts of labour so you feel less blindsided on the day, I’d love to support you as your birth doula. Send me a DM with the word “LABOUR” or click the link in my bio to book a free clarity call.

Induction can feel big and overwhelming – especially when it’s not something you were planning for. One of the options you might hear about is a Foley catheter or Ballon induction.

A Foley catheter is a mechanical method that helps the cervix soften and start to open by using pressure from a small balloon rather than relying only on medication. In some countries it’s used very often as a first step in induction. In Singapore, it tends to be used less frequently, and many hospitals still lean more towards medication-based methods first – but you can absolutely ask if it’s an option for you.

If your doctor suggests an induction, you’re allowed to pause, ask questions, and understand the plan. You can ask about different methods, how they’re usually combined, and what fits best with your medical picture and your values.

As a doula, I help you prepare for these conversations, understand your options, and feel supported through each stage of the process – whether labour starts on its own or with a little help.

🧡 If you’re pregnant in Singapore and induction is on the table (or you just want to be prepared), send me a DM with the word “INDUCTION” or click the link in my bio to book a free clarity call. Let’s make a plan that feels informed, calm and aligned with you.

Save this post for later in pregnancy, and share it with your birth partner so you can go into appointments feeling like a team.

Today, on Mother’s Day, we honour every way that motherhood is woven into our lives. At Papaya Wellness Doula, we know that mothers come in many forms-not just the ones who gave birth to us, but also the grandmothers, aunties, sisters, friends, and the collective of nurturing women who have held, guided, and loved us through life’s transitions.

For some, a grandmother or an auntie becomes the heart of home. For others, it’s the circle of women-friends, mentors, community-who become the vessels for love, growth, and support. Motherhood is not always about biology; it’s about presence, care, and the willingness to hold space for another’s journey. As doulas, we witness daily how the collective strength and wisdom of women uplifts and sustains families.

“Mothering is not just a role, but a community of hearts-sometimes the women who nurture us are not those who gave us life, but those who make life richer with their love.” By Sulin Corella

To all the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and the beautiful web of women who nurture, support, and empower-thank you for being the safe harbour and the gentle guide. Your love shapes the world, one heart at a time.

Happy Mother’s Day from Papaya Wellness Doula. 🌷
