There’s nothing wrong with being emotional and sensitive. Often, we feel it’s not ok because we’ve grown up with the belief seeing successful people being the kind that is tough and in control of themselves in any difficult situation.

Often, people don’t show their struggles and so we may not have felt comfortable with big feelings.

Or our parents didnt have the time or energy to deal with our feelings so we slowly started to believe that having feelings are not safe, not lovable and so we push them down, suppress what we feel.

Perhaps we need to let go the idea that things need to be one way to be right. Let go the idea that we are wrong because we are different from the “perfect” ideal vision we hold.

We spend many hours at a job, so it’s naturally a place that emotions develop and fester when we dont express or deal with them healthily.

Throw in a boss with different communication style, thought process and decision making strategy… it can all lead to a disaster in our emotions bubbling up and boiling over.

That can lead to dissatisfaction, resentment and a feeling like you need to leave if your boss doesnt change.

Our anger is trying to tell us something. We can a) change the environment or b) change ourselves

Leaving the job isnt the only answer. Who’s to say you wont face the same issue in the next workplace.

How we transform ourselves to stay calm in any environment is the key.

1)take deep breaths
2)know that it’s not personal. You are both very different and that’s ok
3)make sense of your emotions. Process them with someone who can offer their calm while allowing you to express yourself

The future can feel so far away and scary to think that we will not be able to reach our goals.
My therapist told me to break down each task into smaller more manageable mini tasks. If it feels to overwhelming, it’s not small enough.
Find the low hanging fruit and start with those to get a confidence boost.

The inability to regulate our emotions well stems from childhood.
-not allowed to feel “bad” emotions like anger, frustration, rage, sadness -were told things like “You’re ok.” “It’s not a big deal”
-you were left alone to cry and deal with hard feelings
-expected to calm yourself down

If you weren’t taught how to deal with your emotions, that’s ok. It’s not too late now.

What’s your favorite holiday location?
Mine is a sunny beach vacay just chilling with no agenda. Sipping a cold fresh coconut, listening to the waves and reaching a book with short chapters (and big font) 😛

This holiday season, while you’re preparing gifts, remember to prepare a gift for yourself- the gift of time. Time to unwind, decompress, hear yourself think, listen to your heart and what it’s telling you. Time just for you is often overlooked, but is one of the easiest forms of self therapy.

There is no one look of depression. Some people cry a lot, some feel emotionless and almost numb. Some can fake a smile in front of others, some just can’t.
You can’t tell what’s going on inside someone’s mind just by looking at what they show you on the outside.
Those with depression can feel like they live their life putting on a show, a made up image, a false front.

When it isn’t something that truly makes us feel happy inside.
To feel inauthentic, like a fraud and that you’re just putting on a show is not a life worth living when you’re dying on the inside.

Instead… let your light shine bright however weird, different and quirky you are. The right people will appreciate and find your specialness beautiful.

What’s the biggest thing in your past holding you back from living the life you dream and deserve?
Our childhood hurts are real. They continue to live in our minds long past when it happened. Nothing will take away the truth of what happened. We can’t erase what’s in the past.
Feeling the pain and hurt is ok, you’re human. Should you let it continue to pull you down and keep you from being your best self?
NO.
If you can look at those painful memories and experiences in a different light, they could bring you to a brighter place and you can shine like the sun you are meant to be.
